Just curious...I usually don't mess with them, but the 160GB/8MB drive on sale this week at CompUSA is awful tempting:

199.99 initial price
-30.00 instant rebate
-70.00 MIR
--------------------------
99.99 final price.

Pricematch it somewhere that doesn't do the MIR...then get it straight up for the AR price. That's how a hot deal is done 🙂

Example. (same hard drive you mentioned, Maxtor 160GB/8MB)

I would, but this is one of CompUSA's generic drives. I know it's really a maxtor, but the ad and the box both say generic, so I don't think a PM would work.

EDIT: and there are no staples stores here in St. Louis.

see above example...it was a compusa generic drive...but the model number was listed on the ad, which matched the model # of said drive at staples.

Got a model # from the website: L01P160. Might call around to see if Bestbuy or Circuit City will pricematch it.

Shoot...that number doesn't match the model number on maxtors own site :

See here

I've only had a couple not come back. Make copies of the receipts, UPC's, and the rebate form itself, and you should be okay🙂

It'll work if "L01P160" is on the ad. Is it?
