If I were fielding a team, I'd always take Shaq first no matter what year he was having as long as he's healthy, but this year for MVP I'd have to pick Kidd. 15pts, 10 assts., 7 rbnds, 1st place.

I'd vote for Shaq for MVP. He's had some problems, but he's on the team that will win the championship, and without him, they struggle and are below .500 if I'm not mistaken. Jordan would be up there as well for me, since the team blew hard before he was there. He might not have the best stats, but he's the Most Valuable Player to his team behind Shaq. Too bad he couldn't play all season.

Yeah, everybody takes Shaq first, but I just don't like his playing style or his attitude - for me, you pick him just so the other guy doesn't have him. For talent and all-around ability, I choose Tim Duncan. Class act, and he was able to outplay Shaq in '99, when the Spurs won their championship. That sweep was awesome.

And, Duncan's improved since then. He just does everything quietly, so he rarely gets noticed.

Of course, Kidd's done a lot of things in New Jersey, but I don't like the way he ripped into the Suns. That's not professional at all - half his comments had to be censored by the networks, and that's not the way it should've been done.

My votes for Kidd.

He's MVP because the Nets sucked last year, and now their tops in the East. He Most Valuable, because he's made everyone around him better.

I vote for myself.... errr Kidd.

Kidd had a great year, and he'll win it because the Nets are in first place in the East for the first time ever.

I picked Kidd but come to think of it I'd rather see someone like Duncan get it than a wife-beater. He's deserving and can do it all too.

it's a touch choice between kidd and duncan. neither the nets nor spurs would win a game without their mvp.

I voted for Nowitzki.

I also guarantee Bryant won't win it. Kidd probably will, and maybe deservedly so, but I still pick Dirk.

I remember when I liked the NBA too. :(

Also, for the same reasons i stated Kidd should get the MVP, i think Michael Jordan should get a nod or a slot in the poll too. I don't think he'll win it, but i think the Wizards almost doubled their win total from last year to this year. Woulda made the playoffs had he not gotten injured. Since he went out, the Wizards have really been stinking it up.

I think it's interesting that when someone talks about Duncan, Kobe, or Shaq, they always cite stats -- X points per game, Y blocks per game, etc.

But whenever someone talks about Jason Kidd, they don't cite stats. Instead, they attempt to attribute the Nets turnaround to him. Do you really think it's possible for one player to cause a 25-game turnaround? No way. Maybe Wilt Chamberlain, 1961-62, but that's about it.

Jason Kidd has shot under 40% for the year. He's one of the league leaders in turnovers per game. THIS is your MVP?

MVP...
is most valuable player in the league.... right?

if kobe bryant stopped playing in the league...
i don't think the league will miss him much.

not as much as if shaq left...

if MVP is an award for the best player in the league that season...
iverson vs. kobe
43.7 mpg 38.3
.398 fg% .469
.291 3p% .260
.812 FT% .827
4.5 rpg 5.5
5.5 apg 5.5
2.8 spg 1.45
.22 bpg .43
3.95 to 2.75
31.4 ppg 25.4

i'd have a strong argument that kobe falls below iverson overall.

i'm not even trying to say that iverson should win mvp.
but if iverson doesn't make it to the list,
kobe has no place being on the list.

honestly, he's done jack.

even while shaq was injured, when he could've proved to the rest of the world that he can lead the team, he's done jack.

as i said before on another thread, guys like kobe are easy to find.

now shaq, on the other hand... there was no one else like him, since he got drafted.

all i'm trying to say is... that kobe doesn't ... definately doesn't deserve an MVP
not for what he did this season.

I took iverson off because he's only going to play 60 games this season so there's absolutely no chance he'd get it this year, atleast not without him having a phenomonal year, which he hasnt had. Same for Jordan - his impact was unmistakeable and would probably even get a handful of votes if he stayed healthy but 60 of 82 games takes him out of the running.

Maybe at another time we'd have more respect for Kobe compared to Shaq...as it stands, the league's overflowing with shooting guards who are almost as good as Bryant is..

Shaq wins just because there's exactly 0 opposing players who can do anything to stop him...

I may be a little biased but my vote goes to Ben Wallace. Without him the Pistons would be nothing.

<<Kobe: 25.4 points, 5.5 assists per game, and just totally dominant on the floor>>

How about T-Mac? His stats beat Kobe's in nearly every category.

MJ would've been a lock if he didn't get hurt. The general consensus was that what he was doing this year with the Wizards was as great as any of his championships with the Bulls.

I don't know about getting mvp votes, but I'd put him on 1st team all defense team this year tho, ahead of Duncan. :)

I love tmac, although it would be pipedream this year. I'd like to see him lead the Magic through a couple of playoff series to get some credibility in winning big games and then he might be a solid consideration. Kobe can do it all tho and has proven himself in big games. He's one of the best defenders in the league too.

If Garnett and the twolves would advance in the playoffs further, maybe make it to the conference finals, he'd start getting the recognition he deserves too, and maybe make a run at mvp next year.
