As the TV was showing HAL killing Frank in 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Coincidence?

How many nerds points do I lose for never having seen that movie and therefore not understanding what you are referring to?

It's got one month left. ;)

Now I have to decide whether to go and buy a hard drive. If I get it shipped, it will arrive 80 miles away. Is it worth paying more at Best Buy to avoid a 160 mile trip.....

160 miles isn't that bad... 2-3 hours? :p

I drive 750 miles per week. This is the only week that I get a break from that until August. ;)

Why would it arrive 80 miles away? Lost me there. I have a couple of each manufacturers drives and have had failures with both WD and Maxtor. No failures with my Seagate drives.

Because I'm not at my delivery address. I'm 80 miles away from my home.

I went to a mom-and-pop store to see what they had, since I have a $50 credit at their place. The guy didn't know what PATA was, so I left and went to Best Buy. I picked up a 160GB Seagate for $119. Not great, but cheaper than Newegg+shipping+gas (For the retail version anyway).

How about never having seen the movie, but still understanding the reference?

Unless you are doing an advanced RMA your credit card shipping address has nothing to do with it. At least in the ones I have done.

Wrong its a Western Digital!

"WaaaahheeeeeeEEEEEE" is the noise a friend's drive makes when spinning up. He's attempting to encase it in foam rubber and use heatpipes to silence the fvcker.
