I think the better idea is why the hell you want to spend $500 on a watch...

Edit: Make that 2 watches... even more absurd

Early 20's, and you are considering spending $1000+ each on matching watches for you and your GF? Shoot me in the face.

Get a "replica" they sell them on the net, you have to get the high quality ones so that you can't tell the difference.

you're a stupid stupid kid or a bling bling stupid rich kid, your choice.

if you don't consider yourself rich, then you have no right spending that much money on a watch. i'm not hating, i've been at that stage before; i was the stupid stupid kid.

Movado? Make sure you go buy a bottle of Drakkar with that.
Movados are the most useless watches ever.

Buy something unique but quality. Tissot, Longines, IWC. These are like the maseratis, Lotuses and Bentleys of the Watch world. Rolex, Movado, and Omega being the mercedes and Bmws.

...and for the love of god, don't spend big bucks on quartz movements. Quality is not about an electronic PCB - as you well know, a cheap factory in china can make a good motherboard. Automatic and Mechanical movements are where quality varies, and the superior quality of these companies' movements is why these companies are as respected as they are.
Second, the degradation of quartz movements is an inevitability. A mechanical movement can and will last several lifetimes...

Lol...do you happen to be Asian? Anyways...spending that much on a watch when you are in the early 20 is just ridicolous.

Instead of bashing you for spending money....

I do not know the quality of a Cartier but Movado's are junk and the service is crap!

I own a $1200 Movado Museum timepiece. Black saphire on black with the saphire band. The turning pin came out and the saphire wore off the band. This was in two months of owning the watch. I sent it back to Movado (obviously defective) and they wanted to charge me $1000 to fix it. :|

It sit in a drawer. Ebay maybe. What a waste! :(

Dunno about Movado, but Carties is French.

Jokes apart. I like the Movado better.

Anyways....If I ever get a "luxury" watch it will be a Rolex. My dad has had his Rolex for 35 years and he has NEVER taken it to service. The thing just runs like a tank. I've heard that Swatch makes some of the internals of Tag Heuers. I personally wear Swiss Army. Good quality at a fair price.

Cartier is a lot more expensive. Hell, I'd probably go with a Rolex for the price of a Cartier.

Edit-I bought a Movado a few years ago for my wife and it goes through batteries like mad now. We stopped repairing it because it was just too much hassle.

A good friend of mine has a nice Rolex he bought a couple years ago (sub mariner I think) and he wears it 24/7. Great watch. Cost like $5gs though.

Is it just me or is there a watch thread almost everyday?

My dad owns a "Movado" watch, it is good I guess.

I don't like their wallets however, since mine worn out in 3-4 years.

I agree completely. I wouldn't spend more than $50 for a quartz watch.

I have an automatic Longines from the 1950's that used to belong to my grandfather. Simple watch, nothing fancy. Plain old gold-filled (aka "rolled plating" as opposed to electroplating) case and everything but it still keeps perfect time. When I get settled down in the next few months (just graduated from college, moving across the country in August) I'm going to have it cleaned, have the crown and crystal replaced, and have the movement oiled. But that'll run me around $150 so it's a back-burner project right now.

If you want a nice watch, mechanical is the only way to go. Just has more class.

I agree with some of the replies here. I must give credit to Movado for fooling people into thinking it's a luxury or high end brand.
