I never had them till I got into a car accident, then the migraines started... thank god they stopped coming. My brother gets them every so often and I would say take some advil and quit complaining.. man never knew how bad migraines were till i got them...

I hear botox helps with the migraines on some people...

Only when I eat a lot of MSG (thank god I finally figured it out)...

This may be of some interest

Me too. that and when i drink red wine. or am really stressed out. the are hell though.
Yup, red wine is on the "list"... along with cheese, chocolate, bananas, and quite a few more that I don't recollect at the moment. I eat Italian like I'm not even Chinese, so thankfully cheese doesn't affect me. I'll stay away from the Chinese food as much as possible. I found out that KFC chicken has MSG in it the other day too.

No, and I'd guess that some of the yes rseponders don't understand the beautiful agony of a real migraine. A bad headache is something quite different from a true migraine.

I'm actually quite impressed by the many descriptions here... bed-ridden and complete loss of functional use of anything... nausea/vomiting... lasting ~6hours+ ... that sounds about right. I know mine are migraines because I have the typical "aura/white spots" symptom just before it. The neuro dude knew it well...

I think a lot of people think that migraine is synonymous with really bad headache. It is not.

Never had one.

My wife gets them about 2x a month. Starts with sensitivity to light. Then sensitivity to noise. Goes to a complete lack of function, and usually ends in vomitting if she can't get to bed soon enough.

If she can get some ice and excedrin migraine before it gets bad, it can usually delay the effects a few hours. At that point, she usually calls me for a ride home from work. I had never taken a sick day, until I got married. I've taken about 8-10 of them, now, just getting my wife home from her job.

They are not pleasant, I gaurantee that. An ice pack over the eyes, and a dark room are the best way to wait them out. It also seems that diet has a lot to do with them. My wife got them much more frequently when we had fast food or processed foods.

My ex-wife used to get them all the time. A doctor once told her to get off the pill because it can trigger them. He also recommended an asprin a day..coated of course..., a daily vitamin, more sleep, regular sleep schedule, regular exercise, and he wanted her to cut out pop. These things did seem to help.
I would also agree with the above post about cutting processed foods. Eating healty can make a big difference.

that is what i am looking into currently. my sister-in-law is a dermatologist and gave me the shots in my eyebrow area to help with the daily, non-migraine, irritating headaches. man, that botox works wonders. since i also suffer from tension headaches, in the back of the head, top of the neck area my neurologist wants to pump me full of botox from eyebrow area to the top of the neck. only problem is that my insurance won't cover it, but i will probably just pay for it out of my pocket.

my neurologist also told me that a bad tension headache can easily inducea a migraine(i guess it has to do with blood flow), which sucks because i wake up with a tension headache about 360 days out of the year 🙁 .

i always knew migraines were painful but people would ask me how bad, i would say 15/10 and they would chuckle. when i broke both the bones in my arm, i then knew that migraines were painful because they hurt much more than the break, and even more than when i first got my cast off and had to go to p.t.

I like that description.

I know when I lay in bed waiting for the pain to go away, I just imagine how great it would feel to just put a bullet through my head and get it over with.

I'm not suicidal, just the mental image of the cessation of the pressure and pain in my head seems like it would be a blessed relief.
