i was wondering how many people in here get migraine headaches. also what is your remedy for helping the pain? mine is to put ice packs wrapped in towels around my neck and over my head, take my migraine meds and lay / sleep in a dark, cold, quiet place. also i make sure i have food in my stomach so when i throw up, i won't have the "dry heves"(sp?). i think i can deal ok, but would like others input because maybe i haven't tried something that works for you.

i have had migraines on and off for 22 years.

I've had 3-4 in my life.

My wife suffers from that kind of pain 24 hours a day 7 days a week, though they're not Migraine (Vascular) they're neurological.

I feel your pain.

You've pretty much described what I do, minus the meds.

Go get checked for allergies. I did eight years ago, and I've had barely a few since.

All the damn time...

I end up going home from work and laying in bed with a pillow over my head and being completely useless for the remainder of the evening.

i got one yesterday. i find if i feel it coming on and head it off at the pass with 3 tylenol, a coca cola, and a nap, i can usually keep it "controlled" for 6 hours or so before i need to repeat the process. the really bad ones, though, there's nothing that seems to help. i just have to get nice and used to the sight of the toilet bowl a foot from my spewing face.

I hate those stupid migraines too. You know, You'll just be sitting there, minding your own business, and they'll come marching in, and crawl up your leg, and start biting the inside of your ass, and you'll be all like, 'Hey! Get out of my ass, you stupid migraine!'

I have no remedy for easing the pain beyond throwing up. I see an aura, get to a safe place, throw up for a few hours, then lay down until the pain recedes. The whole process lasts from 8-12 hours.

if i don't know, is that a definitive NO?

(much like asking women if they've ever had an orgasm)

I agree. I get headaches every once in a while, and mostly they seem to be related to food (I assume low blood sugar, but who knows..) Typically, two or three Advil, Tylenol, or Aleve will cure them right away.

I get headaches all the time.
Generally, 3 advil will get rid of them.
But a couple of times a month, I get one that is so bad that I can't really function at work.
Sometimes these are bad enough that I get nauseous and the 3 advil don't seem to do anything at all.
For these, the only thing that really makes them bearable is to lay down and close my eyes.

I never thought they were migraines. I've never actually thrown up from one of these.

usually you will be sensitive to heat, light, sound, you might have vision problems. personally i seem to be more sensitive to smell to when i have one. you don't actually have to throw up, but i have found that vomiting actually helps the pain. there are many types of migraines, i was once hospitalized for a headache that consisted of partial blindness in one eye, numbness on a side of my body, and i didn't know what day it was and barely knew what my name was. i went to the e.r. and they did many tests, including spinal tap (hurts like a mother when the dr keeps hitting your vertabrae and not between), brainwave test, ct and mri. it turned out to be ruled a migraine by eliminating other problems with similiar characteristics, but the pain wasn't that bad (in comparison to other migraines i have, i would have rated it a 6-7 with 10 being the worst), they gave me demerol which didn't help, but when i have a migraine nothing helps the pain. i just try to get rid of the f*cking migraine. when i first went in they thought i was having a stroke.

you might want to your family doctor / neurologist because there are quite a few meds that help alleviate migraines, especially if you get the meds in as soon as you know that your current headache will turn into a migraine.

From when I was about 7 to when I was 16 I suffered from horrible migranes. They could last days, sometimes over a week. It was just an impossibly searing, throbbing pain and really messed up my life. I tried countless medicinces without luck.

Then, for some reason, when I recovered from a different illness at 16, they went away, never to return in serious form.

I would say so. Migraines are not like any other headaches. When you have a migraine it's an entirely different experience. I was really scared when I had my first one, didn't know what was goin on and why I couldn't see clearly. When I get mine I usually get an aura with tunnel vision and images that get superimposed where I can't make out the picture directly in front of me. And extreme nausea. I believe all of mine are food related in that I'll eat MSG or foods that really dry me out. Try to stay hydrated, that has helped me out a lot.

When I start to get the aura, I usually drink a glass of water with 2 excedrin migraines, lay down in a dark room and do nothing useful for the rest of the day.

I used to get headache's nearly daily when I was in my early teens, they've since stopped. Attribute it to puberty I guess. I get migraines about once every 3 months, like can't move migraines. I also get really terrible headaches in the back of my head, to where it hurts just to lay my head on my pillow. When I do fall asleep, I ALWAYS have a strange dream. It almost hurts to sleep.
