Ive never seen that. i must have a special copy.

and AFAIK my brother hasent had to do it to his XP Pro install either. his came on teh comp and he has formated and reinstalled at least 2 times and he hasent gotten it

im lookin at my XP CD right now. its that crazy shiny lookin thing with teh holographs and it says in a box "Not for retail or OEM Distrobution"

dont know what the means but its a real CD with teh key on teh back of it. also has that" Genuine Microsoft" holograph on it

Technically, yes. But they can kiss my ass if they think I am re-activating every time a change my hardware.

Is it even legal to use a XP Pro key with a Corporate install (regardless of if it is downloaded or not)???

Technically yes, it's against the EULA which is a legally binding contract.

Sounds like you've got yourself a genuine copy of the volume licensing media along with a key for it, technically you should not have that.

I don't know! I'd like to know if either way is illegal. Sometimes MS makes me :confused:. Ameesh, any comment?

Technically the only way that it is legal is to use the key that you have been licenced to use with the media that you have been licenced to use.

I doubt anyone is going to come knocking on your door for using a key that is not yours, however it is still illegal.

I have a licensed copy of 2000 Pro and XP Pro however my brother runs XP Pro Corporate which isn't licensed.

Non activated version = cough*warez*cough.........If you spent $150 on an actual full version, whats the big deal about reactivating it over the phone? YOU DO HAVE A LEGAL COPY DONT YOU??

I used to work for the microsoft product activation phone line... just call in and say you're reinstalling and they'll reactivate it no problem... just a tiny lie..

I have not personally owned a Microsoft Windows license since 98se. I have not used a Windows OS at home since 98se. :D
