this completely depends on $.

if money is not an option...
i'd definately go with Mercedes.

but BMW is a better value of the two.

personally, since money would always be an option...
i'd have to go with BMW.

BMWs... X5 baby. Well, until the X7s come out. ;) It beats out that wagon Mercedes puts out as its competitor.

The X5 is kind of a dumb vehicle...it's basically an AWD 5-series wagon on stilts, except somehow it has less cargo space. Does the 5-series wagon come with AWD at all? If not, that at least gives the X5 a reason for its existence. Other than, you know, all those yuppies out there that love to drive SUVs. :p

I haven't heard of the X7's...link?

Depends in what area.
I like the BMW 745 over the Merc S500 (better interior ergonomics and aesthetics)
I like the Merc SL500 a lot.
The CL series looks good too.
Of course I wouldn't ever turn down an M3 :D :D

I don't like the interiors of most BMWs though, the pre-iDrive system is too clunky and too much like an airplane cockpit. I like my consoles simple. Onboard computers are worthless to me.

The M-B CL55 AMG is one of my favorite cars, so i'm gonna have to go with the Benz.

It depends:

C240 vs 325i, BMW
C320 vs 330i, BMW
C32 or CLK55 vs M3, BMW

E320 vs 528i/530i, MB
E430 vs 540i, BMW
E55 vs M5, BMW

S600/S500/S430 vs 745i/745Li, MB

does BMW make a car that competes with the CL600/500/55?

also depends on the transmission... if I were to get an automatic then I don't think I'd get a BMW, unless it were the sequential shifter in the M3 ;)
btw, if I'm not mistaken, the SLK comes in a stickshift ;) Either way, both make very nice cars... the M3/M5 and the AMG tuned Benzes are nice too.

As for the dealer experience I'd have to go with MB. Nothing beats free donuts and soda in the lounge while waiting for your car to be serviced. I don't see BMW doing that (at least not at Assael BMW where my friend goes) MB seems much more classy and elegant than BMW, which seems to be geared more towards sportiness and the "ultimate driving experience". Judging from experience, the "typical" MB driver tends to be more snotty and snobbish whereas BMW drivers seem friendlier and are more enthusiastic... I'm probably a little biased because I go to all these BMW meets with my friend and all we do is gawk at each others' cars and take pictures and talk :) haha I remember crashing this one MB meet at the Irvine Spectrum with my friend and a few of his BMW buddies... there were a few sick CLK55's that were doing donuts in the parking lot until security came and kicked us all out =\

Mercedes are for old rich ass bastards, BMWs are usually driven by their spoiled kids.

how's this for MB service... i brought in my car (1988 560sel) to the dealership, not the one that my parents bought the car from, but they gave me a complimentary car wash, and while i waited, i got a foot massage... the next day, i went back, they washed my car again, and i got some good italian food... i would have kept on going, but i got REALLY lazy.... hahaha

BMW, of course.

Not only do the BMWs fit my tastes better, I have found that they are far more reliable..at least in my own experience.

I'm partial to the styling of BMW, as well as their commitment to building athletic cars. Overall though, I'm still partial to Audi :)
