I think I've tried everything at one time or another... my entire family used to get a haircut from the same woman, she did a really good job and it's easier on the parents when all three kids get appointments on the same afternoon rather than scattered through a week or two. Then when I hit high school I had to try the Chia Pet look for a while, and my mom would clip it with a Norelco beard trimmer while I put my head over a big mixing bowl. When I grew it out again, I went to a new stylist on the recommendation of a few friends. He was definitely gay, but he did a better job cutting my hair than anyone else and it's not like he fondled my follicles or anything.
When I moved to school I found out that despite the fact that it's the best university on the planet, no one in town can give a decent haircut. I settled for a reasonable stylist and tried to time the haircuts with Thanksgiving and Christmas and other visits home, where I could get a cut from someone who knew what he was doing. But after he moved, I gave up on it and just started wearing hats the week after I had my hair butchered at school.
I suppose that when I start going bald (guaranteed to happen early, just like my grandfathers, uncles, and cousins) I won't be able to take it gracefully, and I'll just shave it all off. How's that Mach3 work for you?
