mods cracked down and made sure it remained kiddy friendly. then balkanized it.

Very true ... back before the creation of P&N and (gasp!) the "change of culture" debacle this place was a lot more fun.

The addition of L&R, Garage, etc has only served to dilute things even more. :(

I don't know, some things are better some are worse as always. Maybe the forum set up has changed a little with all the breaking down of topics, but I think that forum moderation has become MUCH better, back in the day people used to get banned all over the place for just choosing the wrong icon or misspelling something, seriously, and you didn't know who were the mods etc. You're also forgetting that 6-7 years ago there were probably much less than half of the people using this forum, so it was a different environment.

Can't win them all...

Hmmmm ... 7/17/07 join-date.

WWYBYWB? :p

Was never banned before, but I was here such a long time ago that I can't remember which nick I used.

Breaking up OT was a big part of starting to kill it.

The other forums that it spawned are only posted in by a pretty small group of regulars, which is pretty dull for all concerned.

In the past when this has been asked I've been in strong disagreement, but I do think that the times they have a changed now.

C'est la vie :p

I'm 30 now and joined 7 years ago. I don't think I can gauge what's really changed on the forums but I can tell you for sure mindsets change and so do tolerances. I can somewhat tell in other forum categories, the people are more thoughtful/insightful of what they post. There's even a sense of respect. Here, it seems the first thing posters want to do is look for a reason to make fun of people.

i'll agree with the forum split, but not so sure i can agree with the mod comments, other than knowing who they are now. not to say they're all bad, just that a few still act the same.

OT has loads of funny stuff. just not the stupid threads that are only a youtube link

posting a link to youtube with nothing else should be deleted/locked

I've been here just about five years and to me it hasn't changed a whole lot, besides OT getting less traffic due to the multiple sub-forums being created.

It doesn't seem significantly worse to me. I do think that the huge number of forums had diluted the overall quality of ATOT. I kind of miss the occasional YAGTs but going into L&R is almost as scary as P&N these days.

I just don't have the free time I once did to write my grade A material. Back when I lived in a dumpy apartment and my most valuable possession was a 2 year old computer I had plenty of time to post fart joke responses to every thread, hoping to land a 10% hit ratio.

Now, I mostly ask questions about stuff like garage floors and plumbing...that I want legit answers too. These are serious issues! I don't know anything about toilets or snow blowers and I need help!

thats what gets me about this forum. people ask legit questions and most of the replies are
insults.

There are always valid and helpful replies sprinkled in, so the insults don't even bother me. Some of them are funny most of the time. It does kind of stink when your topic goes by for two hours and the only reply is a insult though.

Ah, I have fond memories of old AT. Tomato image whoring, everyone hating PhillipineMango(sp?) and the likes of yellowfiero, acemcmac(r.i.p.), Brutuskend...

Also, whoever made up that thread about a mother with a dead daughter or something that was later found out to be fake and the great nef-banfest thread and who can forget the snake-desert-lever joke. I ended up printing out 10+ pages in 8 point font and read the whole damn joke.

you have to understand there is a finite amount of wit per person, it will dry up sooner or later (same as your sperm)

I would venture a guess that 75% of the members here are under the age of 18.

That is why it has become less witty, the iPod generation took over.

Actually, it seems like it's mostly the more senior members who are doing nothing but leaving single smilies as replies to boost their post count or leaving old tired references from past ATOT events and back-patting each other. New ideas is probably what the place needs.

More cowbell is what this place needs.

Oh HELLZ yeah!!

L&R for example is all serious now where before, we would see the thread here and just bash the stupid n00bs... it was pure entertainment! =)
