Trying to use my Columbia House DVD raincheck from the CYCD deal and so I narrowed my choices down to these three movies. What would you guys choose? Or do you have any other DVD suggestions?

thanks!

Don

edit: i haven't seen any of these so ... yeah ... i'm trusting the opinion of ATOT. 🙂

oh yeah ... if magnolia is anything like requiem for a dream, i think ill pass. that movie was a little too artsy for me

go for magnolia... if u can stand a three hour movie, dont like explosions, and can digest depth, you'll love it. But again, I like movies no body else likes. Anyone else here liked lolita?

magnolia was crap. i like deep movies but that one just was nothing, it tried to hard to be special and all it was was a bunch of mindless bable. the only good thing was watching tom cruise do his only good work. something hes more natural at. BEING AN ASSHOLE. i did like monty cristo but i wouldnt buy it, it is sorda a one time watching movie, dont get that one. trainspotting, now thats the top of the list for me out of those three, or if you dont have it get "fear and loathing in las vegas" that kicks ass, makes no sense but its not supposed to its just two guys getting ripped and going for a trip. o and you cant stop here this is bat country!

or maybe one of these:

one hour photo

high strung

fear of a black hat

kung pow

you gotta own fight club

office space (hell ya)

salton sea (good one)

ugh many more but i cant remember to tired

(my mom works at blockbuster so we get to rent things free like a week before they come out, so i spend way to much time watching movies, still doesnt compare to anandtech tho)

I've only seen CoMC out of those three, but I thought it was pretty good. Not great. UberVoodooFX9700 said it best -- Definitely worth a rental, but not necessarily a purchase.

Magnolia is by far the most ambitious of the three, and to me it is by far the best. Still, if you think Requiem for a Dream is too "artsy", you may not like it. Trainspotting is good, and an interesting film. I thought Count of Monte Cristo was dreadful.

The only part of magnolia I liked was the beginning with all those events strung together. But trainspotting is tops on my list...I mean a baby crawling on ceiling is too good to pass up!

all three of those are amazing movies, you need to get them all at some point. i would say count of monte cristo has a lot of replay value because the story is so great it never gets old

All very different movies. Trainspotting is one of the few movies worthy of my DVD collection for the mucho ass it kicks. Count of monte cristo I have to say I enjoyed quite thoroughly. I wish I could sue for the time I wasted watching Magcrapia.

Scott Ritter can't post right now... so no one here

Count of Monte Cristo was very well done, drama, sword fighting, backstabbing, revenge..you name it, it had it.

Magnolia was just friggin weird....one question, no spoilers for those that have not seen it...WTF is with the frogs PM me...

Trainspotting, is a good movie. I've seen it before but cannot remember it. So therefore it is not a great movie nor an incredibly suck movie.

You probably liked Mulhulland Drive. Short of the agreeable lesbian scene that was a useless movie too!

Rented that without knowing about that scene, about turned it off because it was so weird and confusing....I waited...fortunately.

For what it's worth, I loved Magnolia - actually I thought it was one of the best, most emotionally genuine movies I have ever seen - but hated Mulholland Drive. Generally I think David Lynch is really overrated as a director, and his recent, highly abstract films (especially Lost Highway) are more or less worthless IMO.
