My personal systems run Win95 and Win98. The memory gets more corrupt with each program close. I open and close many programs when I use the computer. Thus if I don't shut down everyday, it will crash on its own. The longest I ran was about 2.5 days. Sure I could run RC5, Seti@home, a server, or something else that runs constantly - then I wouldn't close the programs and wouldn't get the corrupted Windows. However, those certainly are not good tests of a computer's stability. Plus the cost of electricty outweighs the potential benefits to me.

At work, I leave them on for weeks or months at a time. That is how long it takes to get some of my problems solved. I run Win2k to avoid the Win9x issues.

the longest I had my PC running was about 45 days
I had to re-start to install some stuff.. It would have uptimes even larger but I just can't go without restarting for whatever reason from time to time...

My home system almost never crashes anymore. Learned the valuable lesson that the more garbage you install, the less stable you'll be. So I am VERY selective about what I put on and voila the thing works a lot better now. Win2k helped, too. I use win2k at work and home, and I can't remember the last time I "had" to reboot either.

My linux box on the other hand is usually on for 180 days at a stretch, but it seems that every 6 months I need to move it or unplug it for some reason. hehehe. I think once it was online for almost a year.

I can never get to sleep with it on, so unless I'm out of town, it's off every night.

2 weeks and counting.. almost shutdown in a power outage, but UPS kicked in and saved it from going down.

I had an old satellite pro running Linux for 286 days. Used it as a firewall, web server, and mail server :D

Almost 200 days. Win2k Pro, thanks to the magic of SMP. I kept getting all this hardware and not installing it b/c I didn't want to lose my uptime, then I decided to re-arrange my apt and had to unplug the box to move it.

One month max on win2k. That was the greatest satisfaction of upgrading from win98 to win2k. No more crashes/freeze... :)

this uptime of 23 1/2 days broke my previous record on win2k of 19 days. It is still runing and perectly as when i first booted up 23 days ago. My uptime record on win98 was 9 days lol.. and only the first 4 days were trouble free....... i am not trying to see hwo far i can go cuz i think i can go forever, especially with my UPS running :)
