Lincoln logs? Are those what Abe Lincoln's cabin was made of? Literally? "When I was your age we had to build our space ships and trucks with LOGS that we cut down ourselves" 😀

Those could not be brought inside the cabin.

It would take a year or two before the logs that we cut down were trimmed enough to be stacked for playing with. Wrestling 2-3 ft radius logs is not fun for a 10-12 year old. but the land had to be cleared for planting.

 
I used to live, eat and shit legos (not literally). I can only hope my daugher (almost 2 at the moment) will get into them so I can "help" her play with them 😀
 
No, because I'm old, and they weren't introduced in the US until the early 60's, I think. But I did play with lincoln logs, erector sets, tinkertoys, etc.
 
Legos were my favorite childhood toy, hands-down. When I eventually have kids they'll definitely be playing with them. 😛
 
I always played with legos, and loved them, but the moment I got my first battery pack and motor was a huge turning point for me. I couldn't get enough of the technix sets and motorizing this and that. I eventually had four motors and the one control panel that gave you three channels, and learned pretty much all there is to know about power transmission, even the crazy problems that you run into, before ever took a class on the subject.

My qualitative understanding of engineering concepts comes more from my lego days than it does from my time in school.
 
Absolutely.

I loved 'em, & if my sets weren't still at home with my younger siblings, i'd still likely play with them a bit.
 
fuck yes we had THOUSANDS

we had a bunch of the theme items, like Space station and Medevil castle and whatnot however those woudl always get dissmantled and we woudl just make random stuff
 
only rich kids had Legos, us poor farm kids had to make do with rocks and sticks

or sometimes we could get home made lincoln logs

I'm a bit older, and when I was young, plastic had not yet been invented. I did, however have Lincoln logs.
