South won't lose the next civil war. The left are full of gun-less weaklings who can't even change their own tires.

Shrug, I doubt that we will ever see tanks rolling down main street of an American city. It's one thing to leave a foreign country in shambles and then slowly and badly rebuild them but it's another thing to to fuckup a state to prevent them from leaving the union in this modern era. If you "win" you'd have to spend an absurd amount of money to pretty much support everyone and rebuild the states that you just blew up.

That's not even mentioning how necessary some a lot of states are to the country despite them being red/blue or "net contributors" to the federal budget. I'm sure there are a lot of others but two I know offhand are Louisiana and Texas who provide and control a ridiculous amount of the nations energy and the infrastructure simply doesn't exist in the rest of the country to replace it. Heck just the LOOP in Louisiana and all of the connecting infrastructure would take forever to replace even if a location was immediately picked and no one at all bitched or tried to stop it. If terrorists really wanted to hurt us taking out the LOOP would probably be the absolute best way to do it with rather minimal resources.

California's ports and produce are another example and I'm sure there are dozens more. We are just too interconnected and dependent upon each other. Any sort of "rebellion" would be a few nutjobs who would be put down very quickly using non-military, well at least not actual US military, forces.

I think all conventional wisdom should agree with this, but we seem to have almost a half countryful of people who're ready to burn the house down because they don't like how the utility bills are split. The emotional machismo on display like so is historically how many wars started:

South won't lose the next civil war. The left are full of gun-less weaklings who can't even change their own tires.

and one of them might even become come into a position of power to do just that.

Thank you for that link. Kind of makes me wonder why it is called "Neoliberal," instead of "Libertarian" or "Lessaiz-faire." What is the dividing characteristics, if there is any?

The crux of understanding these terms hinges on distinguishing between left/right as relative positions and the absolute positions/policies they stood for through history.

In this case, once upon a time in the days of kings, it was left/liberal to rail against the monarchy for individual rights, ie self-determination in the free market, etc. However, as civilization further advanced, people found out the ills of the resulting capitalism & such, and the left of that later time moved on to make further progress by additional policies to level the playing field and so on.

Neoliberalism refers the first liberal instance, more specifically a new (old) version of it, which is actually regressive in the subsequent zeitgeist, but it certainly sounds catchier than retroliberalism.

You must live in one of the more bizarre areas of the South these days.

I dunno, have always thought people trying to make sharp divisions about things are a bit weird.

Not like they are going to win a war in a practical application, the whole thread is still a bit ridiculous.

Maybe not tanks driven by our military...

I think it'd be an ugly stalemate. I don't know a lot about the right, but I've sure been seeing plenty of how the LEFT fights.
In short; cowardly - but dirty. They don't care about truth, rights, methods, or who they hurt in the process - so long as they're the ones on top at the end of the day, and their methodology/doctrines are the ones to govern everyone.

In a direct confrontation, they're a barely-organized angry mob that runs out of steam quick, but they're fueled by hatred of "the non" and have already shown they'll pull any dirty trick they like. I can see them poisoning water supplies, attacking women & children, starvation sieges, etc.

Plus they're the undisputed masters of lies/propaganda, and wield shame as a fairly effective weapon (See "white feather campaign".)

This isn't like opponents in a boxing ring, it's more like someone hiding in the shadows to stab the boxer in the back - anything BUT a fair and direct fight where they'd most likely lose.

What the fuck is wrong with all of you. Go Google all the horrible shit that has been happening in Syria for the past five years. You want to do that to America? You want to kill millions of people? Reduce your cities to rubble? And you just know that every country in the fucking world would interfere- China, Russia, NATO, Mexico, Canada, Japan... A US civil war would probably kick off another world war.

You're all idiots.

If you want to Know how "Left" vs "Right" would turn out:

Watch "Black Hawk Down" The Somali's represent the Lefties in the US. 😉

good thing you have your mommy's basement in canada to hide in, where all yoru fears and anxieties about evil women and evil libruls can be easily satiated by liters of maple syrup and lack of freedom.

righties sure would love to turn this country into a dystopian hellscape for no other reason than to prove that this place really is the dystopian hellscape that they imagine it to be in their terrified, untraveled, ignorant brains.

I really don't get it, the anxieties and fears they have about this country and this world, how "truly horrible things have gotten." It makes no sense whatsoever. This is pretty much the best time to be a live if you are one of the very over-privileged Americans with the incalculable luck to have been born in this country with everything it has to offer. ANd it has only been getting better and better for everyone, in aggregate, from decade to decade. It will only be better next decade, and the next decade after that.

But these people will never understand that. They simply can't appreciate how alarmingly easy it is to live in this country, how much opportunity really is still available for them. They can't understand the fact that the type of welfare they depend on--and reliably vote on--is the type that keeps their dead, obsolete, backwards "careers" on life support despite their complete lack of skills and experience int he type of labor and industry that is moving this country and this world forward. Never-mind that your cola-mining lifestyle has been dying for nearly 4 decades, and your benevolent CEOs have been moving their fortunes and holdings far away from that very coal--it is always "the others" that have killed your jobs, and killed your lifestyle. Never-mind that you make the same generational decision to stay within the same death spiral of lifestyle choice--it is never your fault, and the fed gov't had better keep subsidizing your irrelevant state with its welfare-dependent, obsolete workforce. But keep mewling, keep cleaning your guns, keep promising to start the culture war that you so truly believe this country deserves--and it is only because you refuse to step into the modern world and actually replace those old-ass burlap bootstraps of yours with some clean room slippers or something more amenable to world that isn't going to need you crawling around in the muck anymore.

(and not you, btw--the "royal you" 😀)

The trump movement is basically one of spoiled brats who've never seen the outside world, complete with the wannabe machismo. They complain about the help while making an average of $72k a year, and seem compelled to threaten everyone perceived to be below them in socioecon status. Surely qualifies as every movie trope asshole.

Hmm let me guess. A Ruger Blackhawk .44 mag, S&W 586 in .357 with Pachs, S&W model 10 in .38 special, old break-top in .32 long, .22 Browning Challenger and a Thompson Contender with 2 barrels, one in .223

I'm not into victim blaming, which is essentially what you're doing.

The truth is that progress reduces the need for human labor across the board yet we rely on wage labor as a way to distribute goods & services almost entirely. That's compounded by acceptance of trickle down economics. Believing that there are better paying jobs for everybody if they were just better educated or willing to move buys into it entirely.

They're mostly insecure about a lot of things, some of which is genuine & some of which is propaganda induced. They're also steeped in the whole rugged individualism/ John Galt/ FUGM headset of the right wing & have correspondingly shitty attitudes about most everything. They feel like there's nothing they can depend on even though it's been their own voting patterns making it that way. Lots of them have been beat down economically more than once. A 50 year old guy could easily have been screwed in the S&L crisis, the tech bubble & again in the collapse of the ownership society. Every unemployment stint beats down their resources until they really don't have resources. Pension? forget it. 401K? beat down every time they turn around. Overhead always goes up. They're afraid they'll have to work til they die & they're afraid they wont even get SS. They're afraid that becoming a racial minority will mean the majority will treat them as badly as current minorities have been treated. They're scared shitless of being poor, rightfully so.

You don't blame bootstrappers for not pulling themselves up by their own bootstraps?

Well, OK.

Damn, your good. 🙂

It's a Ruger Blackhawk .357, and a Colt King Cobra .357.

The old break-top is a H&R "22 Special", the other Contender barrel is a .22 with a Pach for match shooting.

You nailed everything else 😀

But the reality is they're mostly not poor, or at least better off than the lower socioeconomic classes and punching above what their competence merit. They just believe they should be rich if not for the latter dragging them down, despite lack of discernible skills. Ie. the temporarily embarrassed capitalists. There are certainly a number of them here who classify as dunning kruger posterkids, and their political affiliation is no mystery.
