POLL : lactose tolerant or intolerant?

i grew up on a farm drinking raw milk. we had a cow for a while or we would buy it from neighbors

i drink 1-2 gallons a week

I'm not allergic to milk. But on a more personal level, I'm lactose intolerant. I have no patience for lactose, and I won't stand for it.

Can have none of it. Even the Lactaid stuff doesn't work for me.

Soymilk? How do you "milk" a bean?

BS, the stomach is only about 1 liter in size and empties ~1,000 ml of a solution with 360 Calories/1,000 ml per hour. It's impossible to imbibe that much without vomitting. Get a video, I want to see it.

dunno, but it tastes good to me 🙂 its supposed to be way healthier anyway.. i noticed there are different kind of 'milks' extracted from other grains like nuts, almonds and rice.

Lactose intolerance is very low among the human population of European descent. It is more common among those of African descent (including African Americans). Just a thought.

if memory serves right, most people of asian descent are intolerant. looks like i am no exception here...

I'm of European decent and can't have any milk at all.

What really sucks is I was brought up on pizza, now all I can have is the "Soy Cheese" variety. Better than it has been in the past, but just not the same.

I know alot of the posters in ATOT are in their early 20s. This didn't hit me until I was in my late-mid twenties.

Adult-onset lactase deficiency varies widely among countries. Northern Europeans have the lowest prevalence at approximately 5%. Central Europeans have a slightly higher prevalence at approximately 30%, and Southern Europeans have a much higher prevalence at approximately 70%. The Hispanic and Jewish populations also have a high prevalence at approximately 70%, while Northern Indians have a much lower prevalence than the Southern Indians, at approximately 25% and 65%, respectively. Almost all (90%) Asians and Africans are affected.

I'm one of those euro's that is lactose intolerant.

The Lactaid works, I have to be sure I take enough lactaid or I'm in trouble. The dose in different pills varies, figured out more is better if in doubt.

a perfect example of the evolutionary proccess of the founder effect can be seen by the fact that most of the people in south america are lactose intolerant, decendents of a group of people that originally settled there.

I am lactose tolerant, which I figure means I am genetically superior to those who are intolerant. I can do something that they cannot.
