Fleming suspends Kmart shipments

In either economics or accounting they had given an example of a failed chain called Caldor. They weren't bad, decent stuff, a little more upscale than a Kmart. They did some foolish cash management and ended up filing for bankruptcy. When they did that, all their vendors got very unhappy and the death spiral started. Next thing they were closing all their stores.

I have a strong feeling unless Kmart can do some fast talking we'll be shopping at Kmart's going out of business sale. What do you think?

The market might go south tomorrow... someone can acquire them fast... ie walmat.. remember CALDOR ? they came and went fast...

It's hard to believe that another company this big could go under.

Biggest mistake they made was not giving my wife a raise so she quit. hehehe

GOOOOD riddance to the big K!!!!

I notice a lot of their stores are complete eyesores! Inside and out! :disgust:

yeah the one here isnt to pretty, but they do pricematch with anyone no questions asked here
30 for RTCW 🙂

<< They will declare bankruptcy but they will still pull through. >>

Hope they really pull through, hate to see all their employees lose their jobs. 🙁

i hope not!!! just imagine those people who will be affected if this happens.

Yes, most items were pricey compared to walmart, but, customer service sux @ walmart. Plus, here in my area, a lot of businesses are forced to close because of our economy (even IP here is in bad shape). I hate to see this place turn into a "ghost town".

I sure hope they pull through. Lesser competition means other stores will be able to raise prices and suffer less sales loses!

I would really hate to see the local one here go. It is nicer than the wal-mart across the street from it. So if wal-mart buys them out it would be stupid to have one across the street from the other; especially when sam's club is next door to wal-mart.
And to think to put that K-mart where it is, they had to raze gainesville mall.

around here, KMarts are complete ghettos. Take this evening for example. I decided to go to KMart as an alternative to WalMart, and the place is dirty, I can hardly find anything, the few things I needed and did find were overpriced ($5 for a 1 subject notebook...c'mon) and I ended having to go to WalMart to get them because I refused to pay the asking price, and the place was just filled with creepy people!

I really hope KMart doesn't go under for the sake of many people's jobs. Also, it would suck so badly for WalMart to be one step closer to complete retail domination.

i like haveing Kmart and other stores around to act as competition towards the other big stores.

So basically according to the New York Times article, we have Enron to thank for Kmart's bankruptcy.
The Kmarts around here varied in quality. A lot of them were really nice but there are a few dumps too. Still it would mean a LOT of employees out of jobs. Between the WTC disaster and all the bankruptcies, New York is going to be one hurting state. 🙁

Well, we don't have a Walmart and we just got our BigK upgraded to a Supercenter which is really nice! Definitely not the crappy it used to be! So, I hope it doesn't go under!

well here kmarts are considered more ghetto then walmarts, and well targets are slightly better then walmarts😛 guess kmart had to go, they've had a bad image since i was little.

The K-Marts here are downright scary, i went into one and was wandering about the electronics section when i came across "The Adam' Family Values" Super Nintendo game, still priced $63.99! i quickly left and never have gone back there.....

It would be a shame if they went out because they did a lot for retailing over the years. They've haven't been on the ball for years though and have struggled to duplicate whats made target and walmart successful.

They really have no choice now but to file bankruptcy. Its talespinning at this point and their stock has gotten pummeled which makes it harder for them to get credit which makes it more inevitable. They might reemerge because they have quite a few profitable stores but they haven't been able to improve things for years and I don't know how that would suddenly change.

If K-Mart wasn't so ghetto I'd go there more often. The shelves are poorly stocked, debris litters the floor, and salespeople are unhelpful.
I'll keep my business at Target, thank you.
