I have my case on a 2 drawer chest that sits immediately to the left of my L-shaped desk. The optical drives are within arm's distance.

I still get a fair amount of dust compared to my dad's machine which is on a table. Even after 6-12 months, there's little to clean out of his, whereas mine has dust-bunnies galor.

ditto.

i don't think a board (you didn't mention how thick, so I'll assume 1/4 inch) would make much difference.
it's still very close to the carpet.

floor. err, about 3 inches off the floor. My computer desk has a spot for it under the desk. That make sense?

Floor. If this cheap desk could support it though...

Crawling under the desk repeatedly is annoying. Moving the case out on carpet is equally annoying.

Mine used to be raised off the ground a few inches (6 seems about right) on an old monitor stand, but I've since abandoned that and it's now on the floor again. My intake fans have a filter on them so dust isn't a big deal to me. The idea about the board with wheels was nice... maybe I'll have a project this weekend. :)

All mine are currently on a floor. Gaming rig is occassional on the dining room table when the "Florida room" is too cold in the winter. Although that angers wife :(

Desk, I end up kicking it or almost breaking a CD drive tray every week if it's on the floor.

I have a low table next to my desk which my printer and towers sit on. My Shuttle system (size of a big toaster) sits on my desk. Then I've got a rackmount system in a cabinet a few feet away.

On its own stand and middle of case is height of key board. Set on stand to get clean air flow around it. Have had too much work experience where floor located systems collected hugh amounts of dirt/dust etc.. Also can see the side window much better (not the primary location reason, but important).

What? Is your case made of lead or something? Or are you just into buying crappy tables?

:p

My case is on a table behind my desk, along with a bunch of other computer crap. I just have to walk around everything to use the cdrom tray, and that's rarely used anyways anymore, except for ripping CDs.
