Yes you can. Thing is, and I have worked with them in 4 differant ways;

1 gpu by itself = max pionts for Gpu
1 smp and Gpu= max pionts for smp and reduces points for Gpu
2 smp and Gpu= max points smp and really reduces Gpu
also 2 smp = max pionts.
Keep in mind when adding Gpu, the Smp's take a time hit so it may take a bit longer.

If you create and then set a windows system environment variable named NV_FAH_CPU_AFFINITY to the value of 0 you will see your GPU and your SMP clients each very closely approach their respective values they would achieve if they were run seperately. (I run 2 GPUs and one SMP on each quad for 13K+ PPD on each machine.)

If you need more details, just PM me and I'll try to help.

Thanks guys. I will come back when I get a little closer to firing this new one up.
The parts are "on the way". :)

Where is the starting line???? :p

I was thinking the starting line would be December 1, 00:00 UTC.
The finish line would be January 1, 2009, 12:00 UTC (the racing time would be 31 days and 12 hours, because who wants to do the stats at 24:00 on December 31?)

It looks like TAS will need some help this year!;)

Of course, Insidious & GLeeM are TAS members so the TAS team is shaping up as:

Petrusbroder, Neurodog, Insidious, GLeeM, and biodoc.

Any other TASers going to join us? We have some very heavy hardware on the F@H side this year!

PS: It took me a few hours to get an 8800GT crunching F@H again on wine/64 bit linux but she's cranking out the points!;)

I need to update my guide that is buried in this forum!;)

I believe the thread on last year's race set a record!!! It was a lot of fun and I encourage ALL folders to join in the fun and then Peter can set up the TeAms!

OK, time for another glass of :wine:

The holiday race is what got me started last year, so count me in!!! I have a few machines that I could add for a month's time... laptops, older single-cores, and so on. After all - what's the fun in a competition if you're not going to risk anything??? (like your wife's new laptop!)

Chocobo Navy will definitely be in, and it looks like we will have to be doing F@H with these issues with BOINC at work. And I have secret plans for the race that I hope to have work. :D

An update on the Environment variable information is that IT does work with ATi cards. It doesn't give max pionts but it does a lot better than it did with 1 or even 2 smp's running....Thanks Sid! :)

.....................Oh and I'll take part in the Fun!...........Count me in as a yes....

TAS participants update:

FMC, Petrusbroder, Neurodog, Insidious, GLeeM, and biodoc.

TurtleBlue is also TAS so we need him on board too!;)

MarkFW, did you ever join TAS?

Question for the current FAH crunchers: What does 2xSMP produce (ppd) on a moderately OC'd Q6600 (~3.24GHz) these days? I suppose it depends on which WUs you get, right?

I have 3 Rigs that do this and 2 ( q6600 ) that only do the SMP's. They get around 1600-1800+ PPD on each SMP totaling around 3200-3600 respectivly. 1 is clocked @ 3.1 and the other is clocked @ 3.4. and Yes it does depend on the WU.....

Early xmas present (Asus 9800GTX). We have a tight budget these days so that's the best I could do.;)

I am excited though to get that baby heated up and running!:p

I have 3 boxes so 2 will have nvidia cards. The third has an asus MB with onboard intel video and unfortunately, the PCIe slot failed (weird, huh?), so no card in that box w/o a MB replacement.

Nice to hear about your addition!

But it's very odd that the motherboard PCIe slot failed!

Yeah, it is bizzare. It's been crunching for months but I can't get any PCIe cards to work on the MB. Maybe it's a bios upgrade issue. It's an Asus MB so this is the first time I've had a problem with their hardware.:(

It was the power supply! I never should have questioned the quality of Asus MBs!;)

jeez..now I do have the option of getting another nvidia card.

Glad to know it is an easy fix. I am loaded with ASUS stuff and love it all. I've tried the cut-rate brands (MSI, DFI, XFX, BFG, PNY) that have great specs. out of the box, but who cares when it spends most of it's time IN the box getting RMA'd.

You know I'm an NVidiot and yep, you guessed it.... all of my NVidia based video cards came from.......... ASUS

I've tried to setup F@h smp client yesterday and it seems to have gotten a little more complicated... I'm not sure if I'll want to spend that much time trying to figure out the installation uptimization. :(

Their install guides can pretty much be used as a cook book. Did you use those?

This is the one I used
