I have a dual Xeon Rambus MB, but the MB seems kind of flaky. so i want to replace the motherboard.

however, NONE of the new Dual Xeon MB available from Newegg has Rambus Ram.

Has Rambus pretty much bit it??

Need a new option or two IMO.

RDRAM for x86 boxes, yes, at least for some time.
Rambus, no.

a "maybe" answer added.

Actually I didn't really mean maybe, Rambus the company was doing just fine last time I looked, RDRAM just isn't used in any new x86 products these days(save maybe for some niche applications, don't know), but it's used for many other things, Cray and Alpha boxes come to mind, not to mention the PS2.

And they have a bunch of stuff in the pipe.

The question isn't is Rambus dead, it is was Rambus ever alive?
*ducks and runs*

In all seriousness I know some people who still swear by it and claim their Dual P3 1GHz with Rambus is the fastest thing -still- available.

Rambus is dead on the x86 platform for now.

I believe in 2005 their new tech will be wide spread in the graphic card market, and will eventually be migrating to system RAM in 2006.

Yes, and the sad part is my system uses it. And I'm looking into replacing the Motherboard and Memory.

RDRAM had such great promise. It just couldn't compete with the government subsidized and below cost DDR that flooded the market. Another case where the better technology goes unused to save a few bucks. AMD and Intel both still have RDRAM licenses. Both have said they MIGHT use it in the future. Video card manufacturers have said they definately will use it if it comes out with the specs that Rambus has been touting for years. So Rambus is just dormant. Time will tell if it is permanently dormant.

It was stillborn. Intel should have never introduced it with the P3, if they'd have waited for the P4 it(RDdram) may have had a chance.

Rambus could make an enormous comeback if a chipset were released for the P4 again. I875 barely beats the ancient I850E to date. There are a lot of rumors of sis developing a quad channel mobo (dual 32bit sicks). At its projected speed (according to old roadmaps) of 1333mhz, it would most certainly stomp DCDDR again.

Rambus is dead. Dual-Channel DDR is the memory of the future, especially since it has so many new (faster) standards and lots of industry support.

Yes quite correct as it states in this July 10 2003 article, if it does come back it will be a very powerful contender.
Rambus in the future?

To me, it's been dead for at least 2 years. It didn't of course help Rambus to much as a company to flex their legal muscles after they realized that competitors were making more affordable solutions by buying out patents to open standards. That created negative publicity, which caused many consumers to turn the other way solely based on the name.

And no, I'm not bashing RDRAM. It had some serious potential.

The fact is and the rambus fanboys need to get this through their skulls is....they haven't released anything but rumors in along time for the desktop, and they have virtually no chipset support.....Rumored Sis boards have been floating even before i865/i875 and still nothing materializes....Even if Sis made one I would bet only 2 to 3 companies even make one and guess what...STILL A NICHE MARKET AS BEFORE!!!

Rambus fans have blinders on and will pray and wait.....LOL

Stick a fork in RDRAM, sell it while you can and buy some PC3200 DDR.
EDIT: IMO, the only reason RAMBUS is still around is that Sony uses RDRAM in the PS2.
