Poll: Is notepad the worst text editor currently available?

No seperate FTP client and no temporary HTML files on your machine to delete, not to mention all the other useful features like automatic indenting, syntax highlighting, bracket matching, multiple undo, etc...

i also back up every page i work on before editing it. sometimes i have to revert the changes and such, or sometimes i change something, they dont like it, change it back. if the web master didnt have me jump through hoops, your technique would definetly be the route i'd follow. if its any consolation, when i have to create new pages or do massive work, i use the best editor of all, MS Front Page! j.k dreamweaver here.

I use UltraEdit or CrimsonEditor. Crimson is absolutely fantastic as a general editor, and even more so as a general programming editor. It lacks a hex editor which is unfortunate, so I'll continue to use UltraEdit for that.

When I only have access to a unix box it's vi/emacs/pico, in that order if it's available. I generally use UltraEdit or Crimson and simply use the FTP facilities to save directly to the unix box.

i prefer VI, (though pico, or Emacs ranks higher than notepad). However, Notepad is one of my favorite programs for windows. I liked the old dos "edit" a bit better though.

I use notepad to look at html fast, fix a link, read nfo's, that kind of stuff. Also to leave a note or something for myself for later on. It takes like 1 sec to open so I find it much more convenient then word or dreamweaver.

it's not meant to be a stupid word processor or a "text editor"
it's for quick notes, hence the notepad name

and it can be used as backup in case your WP fux itself

Vi/vim rock, it was a great day when I found out they actually make binary Vim packages for Windows, now I can use it both on my *NIX boxen and Windows boxen

I use it to edit program files because it opens real fast. Some programs have txt-ish files that notepad can edit.
