Sports require you to have athletic ability - so no. *puts on flame suit*

In either case though ... it's boring as hell to watch.

To be "unbiased" ISO, NASCAR racers wear a "flame-retardent" suit IIRC :D

I did it for 17 laps. It is F'ing HARD. There are probably only 1 or 2 people here on AT that could actually finish a race. And I am not one of them. My arms would fall off somewhere around lap 100.

Here in NYC that's a difficult "sport" to master! :(

I about lost my arms and my chest and sides was sore in a way I never felt before my first 20 minute shifter Kart session I ever did.

The Hemingway quote has the basics. If you can die in a gross and obvious fashion, it is a sport. All the rest are games.

I voted yes. 78/77 woohooo! :p

Even though I don't enjoy it. I do respect that it takes skill and stamina to drive those things and avoid accidents whenever they occur.

Nascar sucks. Lets go drive around in circles and hope someone gets in an accident!

Retarded? Yes.

A sport? No.

It's a motorsport... a very boring one 99% of the time. Did they cut out the road races on the schedule for this season of Nextel Cup?

Bah, what do I care... F1 season has started!!

As far as I know, I am not a moron and since NASCAR is the nation's second most popular sport, you're calling a lot of people morons. And, no, all NASCAR fans are not all Southern rednecks. I'm not. And I hate wrestling.

Some races are boring, like yesterday's Busch race, but most are enjoyable to watch if you know what to watch for.

As for the road course thing, yes, they are racing a Watkins Glen and Infineon Raceway (Sears Point) this year.

1) You made your first mistake by calling it a sport.

2) Yes, lots of people watch it but be honest with yourself. A large majority of them are watching for the inevitable crash and nothing else. I also hope you realize that almost nobody gave a rats ass about your "sport" until big e got killed. Your "sport" is enjoying its current, success, in large part, because of the untimely death of one of it's biggest names.

3) Maybe moron is too strong of a word. However, I have a hard time defending the mental ability of someone who thinks watching cars drive around in a circle for three hours is entertaining.

4) What is there to watch for except the crash? Is there some particular skill involved here that I'm not aware of? Is it that hard to figure out the best line to hit a whooping four corners with?

5) Ah, the road races. When every driver except Jeff Gordon clearly demonstrates that they have zero skill on anything but an oval. Seriously, NASCAR needs to do away with those races. Grade schoolers on go-carts at the local amusement park look more skilled than the necks do on a road course.

Look, if you like it that's your business and that's fine. But don't tell me it's a sport because it's not. Also, don't tell me there's skill in it. These guys are racing savants. They know how drive around in a circle and that's it. Put them on anything but an oval and they show themselves to be hopelessly out of their league.

Hey now... a lot of Nascar fans have told me how much skill there is in Nascar. The skill is in the strategy. Example: redneck #1 got his tires changed on lap 114, but redneck #2 only got 2 tires changed on lap 116, then during the caution on lap 125, redneck #2 was able to get the other tires changed without losing position, and ended up winning the race.

So, you see, there's a LOT of skill in the strategy. Of course, that skill is the ability to see into the future, but that's beside the point. :D
Oh, and strategy #2: pass the guy in front of you, but don't let the guy behind you pass you.
