POLL Is Keanu Reeves the worst actor of his generation?

"Worst" is too hard to quantify. Some guys have zero talent, but realize it and choose their parts accordingly. I think guys like Jean-Claude Van Dumb and Steven Segal fit in that category, they suck, but they're smart enough no to try to play King Lear. Some guys have a shred of talent, but think they're good and choose parts that are well beyond their reach, so they look like idiots. I'd lump Keanu into that category, he can play a certain type of character okay, but he does not have the range to step outside his Bill & Ted persona. Then there are guys who are actually pretty good, but are wayyyyyy too in love with themselves and wind up ruining most of the movies they're in just by trying to be bigger than their roles. I'd say Jim Carey and Tom Cruise fit that description.

So what's worse? Seeing a non-actor in an action film where he doesn't do much but blow stuff up, seeing a limited actor monotone his way through a role well behind his tiny skills or see a guy who *could* be doing decent work mug for the camera in that "I'm so cute, don't you just love me" way that not even a 6 year old could pull off? It all depends on your perspective. Steven Segal is likely the least talented actor of this era, but I can sit through his movies without suffering too much because the explosions are the real star. Keanu is very bad, but sometimes I can actually enjoy one of his flicks as well as long as he doesn't get in the way too much. The guys that drive me absolutely bonkers are the people like Jim Carey. He could make decent movies, but he can't even for a second stop trying to steal every moment of every scene, so his movies suck. They're unwatchable. So I'll vote for him as the worst actor since he makes the worst movies and the fact that they're so bad is entirely his fault.

Keanu is like the perfect Neo. To have him play more emotional and expansive roles of course doesn't work. But can you guys imagine anyone else saying "woah". I don't think so!

Nowhere near the worst.

We all bitch about him because he usually gets into some pretty nice roles, such as the Matrix. It would be very hard for the lead actor of Matrix to fit everything it was built up to be. Many actors could have done far worse, some could have done better, but Keanu does a decent job.

Actually Keanu is a great character actor. He really nails parts in which he has to act like a complete dipsh!t. The problem is, when he gets cast as something else, he still acts like a complete dipsh!t.

I saw Equilibrium yesterday which was as good as the matrix (IMO). The main actor Christian Bale is Billy fvcking badass. I think he sould have played Neo in the matrix, he is an amazing actor and has the muscles to back it up unlike chocalate boy Keanu.

bad or not, he's pretty generous, giving a lot of the money he earns back to the film crew, spending his single life taking care of his ill sister...

Keanu Reeves just has the reputation as a bad actor. Once you start getting labeled as that, the people will follow.

I don't think he's the worst by any means.

Steven Segal is by far the worst actor, EVER.

There are some actors that aren't exactly good actor, but they know it, and they just do "theit thing", Van Damme, Arnold, Chuck Norris, etc, they're entertaining, and they keep their asses out of Shindlers list, etc etc.
There are some actors who are really good and can play loads of parts and still be good at it, Jack Nicholson, Harvey Keitel, etc.

And there are some who just don't realize how much they suck and seem convinced they're the next DeNiro or whatever.
Steven Segal is one, he seems to try real hard to be a "good" actor, rather than just "doing his thing", which is why he ruins every damn movie he is in, "Under Siege" for example, it's still good, but throw Bruce Willis in there and it would be a crapload better.
I just can't understand what a great actor like Tommy Lee Jones is doing in the same movie as Steven "I always have the same haircut and facial expression, even when I just survived an atomic blast" Segal

he's a horrible actor in that, he doesn't act as a character. def not the worst tho.

he talks the same way, expresses himself the same way. his fake southern accent in DA was horrific.

here's a miracle of the matrix: none of the main actors in it are good, infact i'd call them horrible, but the story of the first one was sooo good that, acting really didnt' matter. lawrence fishburn is a horrid actor also. that speech in the reloaded was bad enough by itself, fishburn sure didn't make it any better.

somehow i can imagine reeves saying this the exact same way in every one of his movie roles: "oh no, oh no, this can't be happening."
