Poll: Is it worse to be addicted to gambling or games?

A friend of mine is addicted to gambling. he also loves game, but isn't addicted to it. i'm trying to get him off of gambling but don't know how cause he's very stubborn. i'm thinking the only way to get him to stop going to casino is to get him hooked on World of Warcraft (he goes to casino about 5 times a week and loses about 50-100 each time). lol, hell yeah motherfvckers, treat poison with poison! pwn. anywho. which one is worse? one that wastes your money or one that wastes your time?
 
Assuming you arent skipping work to play games, definatly gambling.


But if someone starts skipping work to play games, it changes quickly 😀
 
gaming takes up too much of your free time. sex kicks ass. gambling runs you into bankruptcy and ruins your life.

your friend loses 250-500 a week and keeps going back? i wish i had that kind of disposable income....

of course, if i did, id do something *useful* with it instead of gamble, jesus

And to refute those that say that gaming does lose money, it does at a much slower pace.
 
What type of gambling? If it's a game that requires some skill, like poker, then you could just get him some books and lessons. If he's just sitting at a slot machine... then you can probably just buy him a few MMORPG's and he'll be hooked.

WoW won't cost as much, but he will certainly waste more time playing it 🙂

In a way I'm kind of glad the free beta ended.

Agreed. True gambling addiction is a crippling problem, and ruins the lives of not only the gambler but his family, etc. It's just awful IMO. Gaming can be a time-killer, and arguably harmful to one's fitness and social skills, but at least it doesn't create such massive collateral damage.
 
you guys must have not heard this game called Lineage. it does cause considerable amount of collateral damage including death, prostitution, organized crime and much more. with that being said, thats a singularly extreme case; its much easier to get financial blow from gambling so gambling it is.

I'd say sex, for the simple reason of people who are actually addicted to sex, (not just like having it, but an actually addiction), will have sex without thinking about consequences. As a result they don't usually protect themselves, leading to the chance of getting STD, or spreading ones they already have. And I'd rather be poor than have HIV/AIDS. In my book death is worse than no money. So I'll go with sex.

lol, I said gaming just because Blizzard games will destroy your life man. Last semester I played Diablo like 14 hours a day, skipped 95% of lectures and didnt do like 70-80% of the homeworks. pwned.
 
i'm addicted to gambling (few hours a day)...but the way i see it is as a secondary income...i play to make money. if i lost money i'd quit gambling. so if he's making money on a consistent basis then i think gaming is worse cuz its not productive...if he's losing money then gaming is better 😉 been doing this for about 2 years...many ppl disagree with me though.
 
Being addicted to gambling is far worse than games.
I love playing the pokies.
At one point Im sure I was addicted, I played everyday.
And when I wasnt playing I wondered what the jackpot was on, and how much my fav machines were paying out. Almost all my conversations with people turned into talking about the pokies.
Its a fast a way to either get heaps of money 🙂, or loose a shitload of it.

I still play 'em but only on weekends and only if the jackpot is up and if I've got the spare money.
I started to keep myself away from the Casino/Bar Pokies by doing other stuff.
Playing games (as you suggested works), Hanging out more with friends more, taking up another interest.
Getting a GF will fix things straight away. Cuz youll have less time and money and you wont have pokies on your mind 😉
