The launch of the Real World (which I actually liked the first season of because it was kind of original at the time) marked the beginning of the decline in my eyes. I still watched it some through the early/mid-90s, but once Beavis and Butthead were dropped there wasn't anything else that drew me back. Watching good looking 19 year olds nance around in multi-million dollar accommodations is one thing. But to have to endure listening to them whine and talk about their 'complex' feelings and relationships and all the struggles they're having to endure in such harsh settings is asking too much.

MTV doesnt show music videos, because showing music videos turned out to be poor for ratings.

I love mTv for the single fact that glorify and promote these rap artists and scaring the hell out of the parents in the suburbs that got out of the city to deter their kids from that kind of culture. Too late anyhow.. :D

MTV was good at some point?

For those too young to remember, MTV was great from '81-'86. It was brand new, the hottest thing on the planet. Not many people I knew had cable then, so when you had a chance to see it, it was a privledge. Not all cable companies carried it either, hence the promotional slogan "Call your cable company and tell them, 'I WANT MY MTV!!!'" They played nothing but videos. The VJs were cutting edge. They played underground cool music, as well as the mainstream stuff.

Then in '87 they started a game show called Remote Control. Then Dial MTV (which is now TRL). Then in the 90's, hip-hop became popular, and they started these dance shows. Then the Real World, then they cancelled Headbangers Ball. (Hard 30 was a great half hour show each afternoon with heavy music too.) So now you have what it is today. Just bland crap manufactured to appeal to 10-15 year old girls. But yes, some of us remember when MTV was good.

they don't even pretend to play music on MTV anymore. isn't the MTV2 slogan something like "where the music's at"? you gotta get that second channel if you want to see any music videos. i say they can go to heck and stew in their own lukewarm juices.

Last show that I was into at all on MTV was 120 Minutes....

Funny how halfway-decent shows like "I love the 80's" that relive the glory days of MTV are relegated to Viacom's "old people channel" VH1.

mtv was good back when they actually played videos... hence the name Music Television... but now that all they do is promote feminine drama in everyone's lives that does watch it.... it makes me sick to watch any of that pop television crap
