Poll: is case modding lame?

No. Why would it be? The satisfaction of doing something yourself makes it not-lame.

Of course, you think that modding the appearance of your car is lame. But only if it's an Import.. so I guess I'm not surprised.

Is building your own engine lame?

We dont all have money to spend on over priced underclocked mac's. So we mod. Well I used to than it lost its intrest I see its like all fad's it just sucks some in.

its so cheap now, why not. and modding old cruddy pos cases for better airflow is more of a practical matter. you know the kind, the ones with one intake fan mount with teeny pinholes for ventilation which is also behind a plastic face plate with a tiny slit at the bottom for intake🙂

Just becuase you did something yourself doesn't make it any less lame. I've seen plenty of people do projects themselves that came out like crap. As far as your other two statements, they really have no relevance to this topic at all.

Depends on the case mod.

Dremeling out blowhole for a fan = OK

Cutting out a picture of a skull, putting a window on the side, and putting all sorts of neon crap in it = whatever...I don't rag on car-rice so I won't rag on PC-rice but I've got better things to do with my time

If done properly, the case can be awesome. Overdoing/doing improperly, it will look just ugly... just like how some modded cars look cool, some are waaay overboard.

You're really taking this "irrelevant" thing and running with it, aren't you?

I know they don't, they're analogies. 😛 As CorporateRecreation says, to each their own.

I agree with you that some people's projects come out like crap, but that doesen't mean they're lame - it just means they didn't do a very good job, and they certainly should not be critisized for trying.

So, is modifying your engine lame? No? Why? Because you get your hands greasy?

Christ. The objective is to make something better in your own eyes. If you do that, you have succeeded.. and that isn't lame. 😛

What is elegant and what is tacky is pretty much up to whoever is using the said object. While I hate the look of certain cars with "performance" mods on them, it doesn't mean it's lame to do it unless of course you're pretending you've got something you don't. A la many decals that claim you've got something you don't. I would call a computer mod lame that had a Pentium 4 sticker on the front when in reality it was a P3 or something. It's all relative to what you yourself find acceptable. The bottom line is that there are always exceptions to the rules we all like to follow and at that point it doesn't matter.
