I still say that we should have the following debate:

* AMIGA 500 or ATARI ST?
* C 64 vs. Spectrum ZX

THAT is the REAL issue of today's gamers ... :D

Want stability buy an Amiga ;) no seriously I will say AMD & Intel are about the same I`ve gone from Intel to AMD with the same stability,as everybody as said using good quality components on both Intel & AMD is the main thing if you have good components then you get good stability unfortunately some people buy poor parts.

Come on guys. I admit AMD is faster but stability it is noway near intel's. I still have the data-coprution error and they say there is a bug with Creative Labs how come i am experiencing some errors with my Terratec. Nothing helps (clean install, 4-1, i didn't even OC)
My next pc will DEFINITLY a intel. Please go to asus or abit newsgroups i bet 75% of the postings there all amd/via related

Insane - I think you're getting your CPU's & chipsets mixed up here.

There is a good thing that Intel's boxed CPU's come with a very solid & reliable FHS - I would wish that AMD would do the same.

However, AMD's problem is that most of its chipsts (this being VIA) are ... well, in need of improvement, shall we say? :D.

Cpu != Chipset. You can't quite compare apples with monkeys :D.

Don't get me started on the CPU thingy;)
AMD's core is like a cracker you can break it easily seen dozen of broken AMD core (including my owne duron650)

Even if intel's core is cracked it just functions like normale (my old 600e was cracked abit)

PS a CPU's stability is detimired how good the chipset is. Like you computer crashes your can either blame the chipset or CPU it takes both to achieve a stable running

Well - I never tried this on an AMD core yet but I can confirm that Intel cores are "hard" (in physical terms at least).

We had a dead CPU (physically fine) and some guy sent in a crushed CPU (looked like a tank had driven over it). He said all he did was "try to put the FHS on".

To try and "recreate" his conditions, I took the CPU, a good screwdriver and started whacking it. Only after the 6th whack (Sharp end, full strength) did the core finally chip & explorde.

So, that is quite good quality there - I can confirm that. Haven't been bothered to do that to an AMD CPU yet, though I am getting tempted :).

Oh lord if I hear any more of "Special Power Supply" BS I'm goin to take someone's head off.

The Athlon and Duron require a certain amount of current on the +3.3 and +5V lines. That's it. My 250watt PSU ran my .25um Athlon 550 just FINE.

Lets see that 250watt run a P4? Oh wait...no ATX12V connector.
Intel's newest requires a "Special PSU" as well. So give up that train of thought fanboy.

A good AMD board can be very stable to. And as for cracked cores, it's not AMD's fault you don't know how to install a heatsink.

Not all Intel chipsets are more stable than the AMD ones. My new AMD 761-based Epox 8K7A board is more stable than any Intel board I've ever owned or used.

Go AMD!

And go Devils!

How about a poll about what kind of power supply your Athlon system has?

My old K7-650 ran perfect with a 235W powerman. Nothing special there.
