What is sandwich rule?:

At night and at 65 there should be a seven second interval and that's a lot longer that 5 car lengths!

You are overdriving your headlight on low beam at 65 and at night it is dangerous to do more that 10 over both to you and your wallet!

Since i'm too lazy to drive on the interstate, i'll speak for my dad and say 80-90. He's done it in a 55 MPH construction zone between west palm beach and fort lauderdale (VERY narrow lanes, no shoulder on either side, potholes, bumps, abrupt lane swerving. Kinda like the Central Artery.), so i'd assume he would cruise around that speed at night with other traffic.

Several people here seem to be idiots. They show little regard for their lives or the lives of others.

I stick to within 5MPH of the speed limit. You're an easy target at night, and it's more dangerous. If there's a lot of cars around me, I'll keep up with them unless they're going crazy fast. Most of the time I just set the cruise and try to ignore the urge to go faster.

Isn't there a restriction on cops regarding giving citation on federally funded highways such as I-5 and I-84? I recall hearing city police can't give out tickets on Interstate Highway in a same manner.

As a resident of Northern California, I second (third) this point of view.

i normaly drive 75-80 on all freeways no matter what hour posted 65mph as long as there is no traffic, a lot of people go that speed.

However usualy on my way home from say Orange county on the I-5 at 3am with no one on the road posted 65mph i do anywhere from 85 to 100, 90 being my average
therefor i answered 90 :D

After dark, I think speeding, alittle, can help to keep you more alert since you lose peripheral vision at night(which tend to make driving very boring, causing you to doze off at times). The increased vibration of the tires can help a bit here, imo.

I don't speed at night, ever. cops around here like to sit on the entrance ramps or under bridges with their lights off ready to nail the next moron that tries speeding past.

I think a few people on here are whiners that like to point fingers at others...simply because they like to drive under the speed limit just to piss people off.

I would probably do 75-80 or keep with the flow of traffic. less if I had my wife in the car...
