POLL: imdb top 10 movies

The formula for calculating the top 250 films gives a true Bayesian estimate:

weighted rank (WR) = (v ÷ (v+m)) × R + (m ÷ (v+m)) × C

where:
R = average for the movie (mean) = (Rating)
v = number of votes for the movie = (votes)
m = minimum votes required to be listed in the top 250 (currently 1250)
C = the mean vote across the whole report (currently 6.9)

note: for this top 250, only votes from regular voters are considered.

That's the IMDB formula, not just averaging, that's the stupid way. Anyway, I've seen 5 of them, and anyone who thinks Shawshank shouldn't be up there...well...go watch it again...I don't think LotR should be up there in the top 10, but at least on the top 250 list somewhere. The Usual Suspects should definitely be in the top 10 and so should Memento. I, personally, didn't think the Godfather was THAT good, well good enough to earn #1.

i've seen 8 of them. i think LOTR is by far the worst on that list and does not belong in the top 25. it's a fun movie and has nice visuals but it's not a great movie or groundbreaking in anyway.
i would vote for Fight Club to be in the top 10

all but amelie (tried to see, still planning) and seven samurai. something that no one seems to be considering is that this isn't a list of the 10 best movies, but the 10 most popular movies. does popular equal good? if it does, this list should make you happy. does anyone here really think that toy story 2 (#58) is better than the sting (#69)? also keep in mind that almost half of the movies on the top 10 list were made in the past 10 years, just to prove the short memories of most of the people who vote. this isn't really something to get worked up about.

but for the record, american beauty should have been on that top 10 list if lord of the rings was
