*POLL* I'm faced with a decision for getting a replacement GPU!

Here is the deal; I have a 256mb 9800 pro, my computer warranty people troubleshooted an issue I had with white vertical lines and said i get a new card. The question is now this. I believe if I pay about 50-60 bucks I can get a 5950 Ultra instead.

Now HERE is the reason I'm considering this. For some reason I feel like this ATI card has been messing up more than it should've (even though it was broken). I feel like I always had driver issues even after using driver cleaner and trying omega drivers and everything. For some reason whenever I open games it would minimize them and I would have to click to open in and click many times in the window in an effort to get the window to stay open so I could play the game. This problem cannot be fixed...I dont know what to do. I feel that this just could be some wacky issue with this card in my system and MAYBE i should try the Nvidia card even though its extra money and may not perform as well?

WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK?

What about getting full refund for the card and:

a) buying a 5950/9800Pro in 2 months when it drops in price significantly
b) adding extra $100 to get the new generation card

Get the new replacement for the 9800pro for Zero dollars. Sell it. Use money towards new NV40.

Sounds like a winner to me, the difference between the 128 and 256 meg cards are slim to none, you'll make $150 bucks!

I'm worried about selling it. I dont know how I would do this because I dont have any heatware record OR a paypal account currently...I also dont have a car and I live on a college campus so sending things isnt too easy but is doable IF the selling can go safely and money can be made without a great risk...

Please explain, everyone! Advice is appreciated. 😎:disgust:

If you can't, no big deal, keep the 9800pro 256 meg, and be happy with it, it'll carry you for some time to come

Get a replacement, sell it and then use the cash for a R420/NV4x.

Your right BFG. Sorry I was not so "politically correct". My pref is NV. So R4xx/NV4x would be what I had meant. 😉

Pay $60 for a new card which will get you maybe +2-3 more fps in some games with worse AA/AF and crappier performance in newer DX 9 games? Go with the same card. Or do like some people suggested already, get the same card and sell it. Then get a new card (like a 9800Pro 128) and use cash to buy next-gen card.

If they'll let you pay more for the 5900U, won't they let you pay less for a 9800P 128MB? I wouldn't go for an FX card ATM, and I especially wouldn't pay more for one right before NV40 is released. Your other problems sound like a problem with your system, not ATi. I mean, minimized 3D games upon launching is something I've never heard of before. Do you have an updated anti-virus proggy? Do you use Ad-Aware or Spybot? Did you try totally cleansing your system of any ATi and nV drivers lying around before reinstalling the latest ATi drivers?

there was never a NV card in the machine and yes everything is very well maintained, I just dont know why this happens. I use driver cleaner before I install drivers. Sometimes when I install new drivers it works normally for a while but something will fvck it up and it will go back to sucking....
