No one has asked this yet? Was your girlfriend being a BITCH? If so you have no right to start a fight over something that is true.... and in that case I agree with your friend not to help.

It depends on the situation, and now that I have a family to deal with I have to temper my couragous ideals with the real concern about being in a wheelchair due to some moron giving me brain damage.

I'd say the real problem here was thinking about fighting a stranger for a verbal insult. There are 6 billion people on the planet, so why would one person's judgment about your gf make you want to get into a potentially very serious medical situation?

What I can say with certainty is this: if a friend was talking crap and he got jumped and was losing, I'd let him take it. He deserves it. He may be my friend, but he deserves it. I'll personally put loyalty of a friend behind the justice of him getting a beating he deserves. The best course of action, of course, is to not hang out with people who invite combat with strangers.

The general rule for me is that you back up a good friend in any fight for any reason.

This is regardless of situation... I edited the post to reflect that

Ah, well then it really depends :) If a friend is a dick he deserves a beat down, and screw him for trying to get me into it.

Some people walking along the sidewalk were throwing stuff at our car and yelling obscenities. The car was still rolling when the passengers poured out. No physical confrontation needed, just large intimidating friends.

That's a yes. They back me up, I back them up, although I relate to the OPs friend as far as my physical size so I'm not sure how much help I would be. Although, anything worth fighting for, is worth fighting dirty for.

you should stop being friends with guys that have no balls.

You like the guys with the big balls eh?

umm sure bigger the better.

This situation would never happen. I could never be friends with someone that didn't have my back.

There you go. I've done that exact thing. Was at a football game, and a friend (intoxicated) tried to start a fight with about 4 other guys. I waved at them, sort of got them laughing, threw him over my shoulder and walked away....with him still talking crap to them over my shoulder the whole time.

But in a different situation, a friend was being harassed by a guy he'd had a problem with before. The guy had a buddy with him this time, and both were getting in my friend's face.
I saw what was happening, ran over, stood by his side, and they backed down.
If they hadn't, someone's ass would've been kicked. Might've been ours, might've been theirs, but I wouldn't have left my friend fight alone against 2 guys.

As far as a friend fighting someone 1 on 1, I'd pretty much let that run its course, unless my friend started losing badly, then I'd stop it.

(Assuming we are talking about your best friend here)

Friends don't require explanation or reason! That's what they are there for.
I can count my best friends on a single hand but I know that each and everyone of them would have my back no matter what the situation and vice versa.

Anyone who says they would just watch how a good friend of them gets beaten up right in front of their eyes needs a beating themselves.

an interesting point was brought up.

at what point do you decide enough's enough? i mean - if your friend is getting sufficiently bloodied and beaten, when is it ok to step in? chances are if you do, someone is going to take exception, no matter how much ass is being whooped.

clarification: it's a 1 on 1 fight happening. your friend is getting pwned. when to step in, if at all?

No because I know for a fact my buddy could take 2 guys with ease. I would just sit back and watch the guys get beaten senseless

if its 2 on 1 you defently have to step in to help out. 1 on 1 no. Your friend is a bitch.

If they are outnumbering my friend, I'd do what I could to help him out, so in this situation, I'd join in the fun. If it's a fair fight, 1 on 1, and my friend was getting hurt I'd try to break it up.

that's his excuse... that his involvement would be pointless. IMO that's b/s. I'd have his back NO MATTER what. I don't care who started it. 2 against 1???

My bestfriend basically said he wouldn't. I almost got into a fight the other day, (some punk and his friend called my g/f a b!tch.. )and my friend was like dude... don't do that.. cause I'm not going to step in, I might get hurt. he's sort of small). I was like wth dude, I wouldn't even think this would be an issue.

WTF. I was under the assumption that this is just something you do.. your friend gets into a fight.. you back him up. am I wrong?

EDIT:
he wouldn't get involved REGARDLESS of situation.

I would, have...even outnumber knowing we'd get the beating of it.

However, your friends attitude is why things like 9/11 happened so easily. People are afraid to even call the police for fear someone there may know the crook and let them know who called

Beat your friends as$ and tell him just theoretically sharing the beating I would have gotten.

profit!
