POLL: If you had around $3k to blow on a TV, what would you buy

I like the Sony LCD Projection, the Samsung is a awsome TV, but it has issues, lag with any 480i source, causes issues with PS2 etc... HDMI input has some issues with 720p. And many of the TVs have screen smudges, really only noticable with a solid background.

I chose Rear Projection DLP too, but the only one I've actually had experience with was a Sony rear projection LCD (hooked up my computer to it over DVI at a LAN party), and I was really impressed with it.

I'm not spouting off. 3k is waaaaay too much to blow on a TV when you can get a 50" for half that.

i dont really like projectors. i have a 42" plasma and i love it to death.

Depends on if this is going to be my only TV, or if I already have my current setup.

A projector is great, but is not ideal for a primary viewing display for most homes.

It depends on what you're going to use it for. If you're only doing movies, then I would get a front projection DLP. But if you're using it for say TV or an HTPC, I would go with a rear projection DLP. The new rear projection DLPs are so thin that you can hang them on your wall like a plasma.

D@mn, I didnt even know we had so many friggin types of tv. I like DLP, but I dont know if front or rear projection is better

Typical plasma TVs have a life span of 20,000 to 30,000 hours, which equates to at about 20 years of usage if you have the set on for 4 hours a day.

To expand on that, nearly all current gen plasmas now have a 60k hour halflife (the time it takes to reach 1/2 brightness, at which time, they'll still be brighter than most other displays).

Looking right now and I've narrowed it down to Plasma or Rear Projection LCD. Don't like the look of DLP.

ive looked at places like best buy, and seen their TV selection. i am amazed at the quality and brightness of the new $5-7k TV's. its astonding how crystal clear they can get, its almost like im wherever they r filming

I'd go with a 60 to 70 inch rear projection CRT or DLP.

Though If you plan on having the couch less than 6 feet from the TV, a 42inch or smaller would probably make more sense.
