POLL: If u kill someone out of self defense, is it a sin?

If u kill someone out of self defense, is it a sin? For catholics, would u have to go to confession for it? 5th commandment says thou shalt not kill. are there any clauses in the bible that gives exception like self defense?

I thought the commandment originally was "thou shall not commit murder". So killing for self defense was ok

Why would it be considered a sin when the bible is full of the glorification of certain individuals in war? Apparently God is all about helping people on his side kill the people that aren't.

Religions always make sure to place conditions on their tenets, at least they do when it comes time to interpret what they actually mean. If they did not then most wars, and especially things like The Crusades and Jihads, would not be possible and regardless of your stance on politics wars are almost assuredly unavoidable considering human nature.

if i eat dinner at 8 and swallowed some food stuck in my teeth after 12, will i turn in to a gremlin?

The legitimate defense of persons and societies is not an exception to the prohibition against the murder of the innocent that constitutes intentional killing. "The act of self-defense can have a double effect: the preservation of one's own life; and the killing of the aggressor. . . . The one is intended, the other is not"

5th says "thou shalt not murder" not kill. There is a difference which can be seen through other verses.

and no it is not a sin.
