Unplug me. I want to be able to jack in, leap from roof to roof and kill anyone with impunity. You could learn all the knowledge of the world in a matter of days by having it uploaded directly to your brain... What possible negatives are there to unplugging (apart from death which is going to happen to you either way)? God, you guys are a bunch of pansies...

Didnt read my post did you...

Admittedly, no I did not, but like jtvang125 said, you don't have to be The One to do cool shit. Trinity and Morpheus do some pretty wicked shit, and I seem to remember Niobi does too... And even if you couldn't superman around, you could still load out with all the guns you could ever need, learn shit instantly, and be faster and stronger than virtually everyone except for agents, other programs, and The One. That's a fucking sweet deal compared to anything you could have here... Hell, you could just jack into the construct and have your own personal holodeck.

I guess I'm being beaten by semantics. All I mean by "superpowers" is any increase in ability to what you have now

But... why not, when other people in the same scenario do? There wouldn't be anything stopping you from jacking back in and seeing your pre-unplugging friends and family again, right?

*facepalm* you're missing the point of the whole thought exercise

No, I'm not :p
I thought about it and voted red pill.
But the only thing you're being beaten with is the scenario you presented ;)

For one thing, I don't think you are grasping the ultimate concept of the matrix.

Going back in to the world, knowing it is all fake - knowing the things being done are meaningless - knowing everyone around you is merely a slave to the machines - it makes all of your relationships, family, everything - completely irrelevant.

Second, plugging back in is dangerous. It's not like a simple video game you can enter and leave without consequences. Agents are constantly hunting you down. You would constantly need to be by a land-line phone (one able to get you out of the matrix).

Again, the ultimate question is whether or not you can accept being a slave - having no "true" control over anything - and living an ultimately meaningless life in a virtual world. Or if you care enough to reject that false reality and embrace the harsh, depressing reality.

Knowing the relationships were based on a false reality does not necessarily nullify emotional connections--we are emotional beasts, after all.
I do understand the question, and considered everything in your post before I voted. Now I'm just having fun ;)

You do realize that the true story behind The Matrix is when everyone was "unplugged" they just went into another iteration of The Matrix. It was for the ones who kept acting up.

OK, fine. No crazy roof jumping. Would I be able to re-enter the Matrix via those chairs or would I be stuck in Zion? Would I be able to upload information directly into my brain (learn Kung Fu in mere hours!)? Would I be able to load out with guns, ammo and vehicles prior to entering the Matrix? Would I be able to enter the construct free of the Matrix and use it as a virtual reality device like a holodeck?

How are you supposed to join in the fight to free humanity from the machines if you're stuck in Zion? That totally changes the equation. I mean, I'd be willing to accept a cold, harsh reality for a grand cause, but not just to sit around in raggedy clothes eating shitty food.

Then I'd probably still do it. Have you seen the crazy shit that goes on in Zion? It's just a big rave/orgy. But I would like to know why I'm not allowed to jack in given that I've got the plugs and all. Did I get kicked off a ship for wanton mass murder of civilians still connected (which admittedly probably would happen...)?
