POLL: If OS X had games with more native Mac clients would you switch?

The poll on Linux got me interested/thinking...

If OS X had more (or almost all) games running native clients would you switch to OS X/Mac?
I guess that could include Hackintosh since the hardware cost for a MBP or Mac Pro/iMac can be a barrier to many.

OS X does of course currently have native clients for WoW, Quake Wars, COD4, etc. but not much else. Just curious.

(edit) added an option for people who may already use OS X (I do but voted yes instead.)

I am perfectly happy with Vista honestly. I can do anything I want and it's stable. Pretty much all I need right there.
 
Nope. I grew up using Windows, and have never had a problem that has made me want to switch. I've only used a Mac a few times, but I didn't see anything to convince me to switch.

I like Windows.

hackintosh not withstanding, i wouldnt want to use a mac for primary gaming because they are too spendy and proprietary.
imagine buying a new mac every year just run current games(or even every 2?)

don't really like Macs at all, and I really don't care for OSX... I'd rather see Linux adopted over OSX
 
No. Unless Apple releases OSX to run on non-Mac systems legally, even the most powerful and expensive Mac Pros ship with anemically weak video cards. Unacceptable for gaming.
 
The only Mac with upgradeable graphics is the Mac Pro, which starts at $2600 (education store). Otherwise the best graphics card available is the 8800GS in the 24" iMac...
 
I dunno maybe... I get the impression "everything just works" like it does with my ipods. The grass is always greener on the other side though, so maybe i would switch i dunno.
 
Yup, as others have stated, you'd still need to jump through the hoops of running a Hackintosh in order to get decent price/performance out of an OSX rig.

Yes, I know about osx86 but for me to switch I would want official release of the os for x86 without the need to buy apple hardware.
 
I voted no but after rethinking it a bit, I'd consider a hackintosh if it was relatively trouble free once installed. I'd much rather be using Linux though.

No, I wouldn't. I don't like Apples closed-everything monopolistic we're-the-center-of-the-universe philosophy. I like building my own computer. I also appreciate the openness of the Windows and Linux-based operating systems far too much.
 
Aside from the mac hardware problems for gaming, I had to use the Mac OS for a month at university once (changed career path and went into a trade instead) and to this day I hate OS X with a passion.
 
Please someone tell me why a professional photographer or video editor would use a MAC over PC. Some of the top programs such as Photoshop and Avid can be used on a PC. I see no point in shelling out 5 grand for a Mac when I can shell out the same cash for a custom built PC which would probably be a lot faster with way more options.

I will say I do recommend their laptops though. You really do get what you pay for.

I think thats a myth. I'm pretty sure most Mac users nowdays are switchers like me who are just geeks/heavy computer users and not graphics designers. I don't even think the old "Apple is easier" thing is true -most of the mac users I meet are programmers/in the IT field. I was a die hard PC fanboi until I played around on a Macbook Pro. It is by far the best laptop I have ever used... for build quality and features. It's a shame but I think people use Mac's because they are doing stuff that PC hardware manufacturers and Microsoft should have been doing all alone. It's not revolutionary but the little things in OS X make me smile every time I use it... now you start to see some PC manufacturers copying some of the better parts of Apple so thats good.

That said.. Apple can also be an exercise in frustration. Even though its built on unix it is a very closed system and there are a lot of things Apple does that will just piss you off.

I am so happy I am a "mac user" now if you want to call me that - my only frustration rests in the fact that I am a die hard PC gamer and I loathe dual booting...

Very true. Their hardware pricing scheme is pretty expensive.

I do know a lot of people who get by gaming on MBP's and they only replace them once every 3-4 years. If you are an extreme overclocking must have the best hardware user then stay far, far away from OS X. But I am just a hardcore PC gamer who is used to medium settings (since I always gamed on laptops, even back when I bought Dell's and HPs).

It seems like right now the best thing to do for mac users is to have a gaming desktop and a rig like an MBP to take to LAN parties use for all other stuff 😛

Ya in Bootcamp (Windows XP SP3) I get about 60-100 FPS on all Source games with settings on max and HDR. This is with an older MBP. In OS X the FPS depend on the shoddyness of the port. WoW runs well, Quake runs good, COD4 runs so so.

OS X is for people who are scared of Linux but dislike Windows.

In other words, I don't have enough fear to bother with Apple's shoddy OS 😛
