POLL: if given the choice, which profession would you choose?

very narrow list but out of those four, which would you choose?

For the overall job satisfaction, prestige, salary potential, etc.

Doctor - The pay isn't very good, and you have to deal with tons of bullshit on top of your normal responsibilities (being a doctor isn't easy BEFORE the bullshit). Sometimes it's a thankless job, but other times it's not so bad.
Lawyer - You no longer have a soul. The pay can be great, but you no longer have a soul. Sometimes your job will be to screw people who don't deserve it. It's a cutthroat business.
Business - Same as Lawyer, point for point, assuming you're trying to climb the ladder.

Pharmacist - You get paid very well no matter where you work (even places like Wal-Mart). Your job is easier than a doctor's because you only really ever "diagnose" the small things. You know how every drug works, and you can diagnose a lot of the basic stuff. It's like being a doctor but with fewer hours. There are a lot fewer malpractice suits against pharmacists than against doctors as well. Overall, same pay for less bullshit, Pharmacist wins.

wow, im the only lawyer so far. i never wanted to be a lawyer, but now as i grow older i realize i may have been a decent one. i love to argue, i can usually argue both sides whether i believe or not. mebbe ill go back to college and get me a law degree hehe.

Plastic surgeon. I want to make all the fugly people in the world attractive. Now that is doing society a real service.

None of the above. I wanna be a police officer so I can tase dumbasses who refuse to cooperate and resist arrest.

Lawyer is first choice in the pure fantasy realm, but pharmacist wins in the fantasy but possible reality if I wanted to realm.

I worked at CVS, and the two over night parmacists had awesome jobs. The one guy had like 3-4 cars and was looking to buy a $80k BMW or Mercedes around the time I left. They net 6 figures easy.

Well put. I'm not a PharmD, but I sleep with one. 😛

Of the Lawyer, MD, and PharmD the pharmacist will have the lowest earning potential over time. But it's the quickest way to decent money, has a very low stress life, and can be very rewarding without having to sell your soul.

"Business" is just too vague to have any meaning. An "I-Banker" can make bucket loads of money, but the competition, hours, and stress are more than I would want.

Pharmacy is the safe choice in the list.

Pharmacy. Less stress, money is good enough, and I don't care about prestige. I just want to enjoy my family and life.

All good jobs but MD is the best unless you want the big bucks. If money is most important than business. Most of the stress in medicine is money/billing related. If you can get by on low six figures than it really isn't an issue. If you're smart and hard working, medically competent and well educated, malpractice is not an issue. The only other problem with medicine is all the crazy people. Most of the time it's excirting, important work. Active hands on stuff wotking with people from all walks of life is really great.

I went the law route, but if I had to do it again I'd pick Pharm.D. Even though retail pharmacy looks boring as hell, it's stable and in demand. That's priceless when you're just starting out or looking to settle down. Plus, unlike law, you don't have to take a new license exam every time you move to another state.

I've heard mixed reactions from my M.D. and D.D.S. friends about their careers, but not as many complaints from pharmacists I know.

God learn to expand your mind. I was telling GF the other night I'd kill myself making mediocre-decent money and be stuck at Wal-Mart or CVS all day.

I would choose Business. Become some sort of a biz tycoon, shake hands, travel internationally, eat expensive food with clients. May commit long hours and stress but it sure beats stuck in a fucking CVS counter counting pills all day.

Exactly this. I wish I'd thought about what the hell I was doing when I was in college. 18 is a pretty stupid age to have to make decisions that will affect the rest of your life and the lives of your future family.

Expand your own mind and realize that Pharmacists can work in hospitals and interact with a large number of highly educated health care professionals on a daily basis.

Being a pharmacist doesn't mean you have to be stuck behind a counter listening to people bitch about how much their perscriptions cost all day.

How does being stuck behind hospital counter different than being in retail pharmacy? No matter what type of pharmacist you are, you'll be doing Just that.

The picture I painted in biz is far more attractive to me.
