I don't know about Firebird, but in Mozilla: type 'about:config' into address bar, press enter, and set 'browser.enable_automatic_image_resizing' to 'true'

I can't stand it. The popup toolbar gets in the way of the image and often leaves visual artifacts behind when I "center-click-and-drag" on the full-sized image.

Depends on the monitor and resolution size. If I'm on a machine with 768x1024 or lower resolution I'll turn it on. If it's higher than that I'll turn it off.

That's not Firebird you're talking about. For the Mozilla suite, there are instructions a few posts above yours.
