What would you go with?

Btw, the I left out the IBM 75GXP because of all the problems I've read about.

Maxtor D740X

It knocked off 10 seconds of my 98 SE boot time ALONE.

7200 RPM, ATA133, good cache, quiet operation, low heat output.

My 75GXP is fast and as long as I cool it down with a fan, it runs alright.

I'd go with WD-SE (8mb cache, unresisitable), however, if i am on a budget, i'd get the Maxtor...i have them in Raid0 right now, FAST

The 100GB WD SE is my drive of choice but it is pretty expensive. So I think the Maxtor D740X is the way to go.... Although I wish the models with the fluid bearing motor's were more readily available. Anyone know a vendor who carries them?

I vote also for the D740X... I used to hate Maxtor drives with a passion, but this drive is amazing. It's so quiet, and it's VERY fast. I got 36MB/sec with it! Not to mention they cost pennies!

<< i have 7 maxtor drive throughout five years, none of them went out on me yet. go Maxtor. >>

I've owned about the same number of drives in that period, all different brands, never had one go bad. I still see all these drives in operation today. Not even the IBM 75GXP I currently have (one year) has gone belly-up. And all are heavily used everyday.
