I have buyer's remorse for not getting a Powerbook. I called the Applestore and they said I can trade it up for a Powerbook. I might be headed over there a little later to exchange it for a 12" Powerbook ;)
I'm at dwell's apt now so we're probably going to head over there together so I can lust even more over the ALBooks:p
<drool>I am in the Mac store in Soho, NYC NOW with dwell typing from a 12" ALbook G4 and I have to admit, I am falling in love.</drool>

Gah. God help me.:p because I can't afford it now hehe.

Can you be more descriptive as to why the OS sucks, and the computers suck?

I love my iBook, but I'd give it up in a second for a Powerbook. If I were you, I'd stick with your iBook for now though. The Powerbook 12" has no L3 cache, which gives it's G4 much of its oomph in non-Altivec software. Believe it or not, the G3 750Fx in the iBook is pretty potent in most applications. It's capable of using a 200MHz memory bus and 1GHz clockspeeds. In fact, you can overclock it by software if you can get your hands on the CHUT 1.1.1 tools. Apple is holding back its full potential so that the Powerbook's G4 looks more attractive. Anyways, the new Powerbooks are probably going to be released in the WWDC in a couple of weeks. Hopefully by the fall, the PowerPC 970s will show up in the Powerbooks (if they aren't released at WWDC in 2 weeks which is highly unlikely). I'll jump up to a Powerbook when they get a PowerPC 970. But for now, the only Powerbook that is compelling to me is the 17" one and I find that is too big for my needs. If you wait a couple of weeks, the new 15" Powerbook may be out and could suit your needs better. It will have the sturdier, more scratch-resistant aluminum casings of the 12" and 17". And it will probably have a "real" G4 with L3 cache, and better graphics chip.

I got much the same reaction by people so far as the colour was concerned. But once people start using it, they fall in love with it. I definitely didn't buy my iBook for its looks, but they've grown on me nonetheless.

So I did end up getting the 12" Powerbook. I would probably sit on the fence waiting and waiting if I didn't just go for it. The iBook definitly ran cooler and had longer battery life. I will miss that about it. I am really liking the look of the alBook, very sleek. I could have lived with the iBook for sure and I am kind of sad I let it go. For investment the Powerbook will probably last a year or so longer for me. I give it three years to last.

Most money I ever spent on a computer. Oh well, I like it a lot.

Yeah I ordered a 12" powerbook also...it should come in a week or so. I'm totally jazzed...I personally think the "feel" of the keyboard on the 12 and 17 is a big selling point.

dwell, make sure you get the 10.2.5 update. It will help the heat issues ALOT. I dont think i have heard my fan since it was applied.

iamwiz: I got 10.2.6. It does seem much cooler since I applied the patch. It was burning up before.

Lucky duck. Hopefully I'll have a Powerbook by year's end. It'll be hard to give up this iBook though. For a computer that looks so basic and outdated on paper, it's been a great workhorse. Whatever you do, don't upgrade to iTunes 4.01 just yet. Just get iTunes 4.0 if you can. 4.0 lets you listen to other Mac users' iTunes library over the Internet. Eventually they'll force everyone to upgrade and lose this functionality but it's pretty neat in the meantime.
