Poll Ibm T40 or Dell 8600

Wow, I guess one thread wasn't enough.

Why not post in the SFF/Notebook Forum?

And I voted T40. IBM laptops are never a bad investment. Sleek black alloy housing, built like a tank.

I think you should note the application: business, gaming, development, etc. I think the T40 is a better overall business laptop, but the 8600 could be great for gaming, development, graphics, etc.

My $0.02

T40 if you can afford it.

i've owned Dell and IBM laptops, and IBM's have always been so much more sturdier. (however, i haven't tried Dell's new batch of laptops)

do you want a 6.9lb computer or a 4.6 lb computer. That's a pretty big difference. You're really comparing computers in two different leagues.

I ordered a t40 about a week ago.

In general, IBM is very good in their support of linux. However, the T40 uses bleeding edge hardware, and the linux support is still catching up. I don't know about the 8600.

My friend just had a bad exprience with a T40, so I might go the Dell route, but with a Latitude, no Inspiron crap.
