Ok,

I've been trolling for a while here and there's some great posts. Just received my P4 1.6a and Samsung PC2700 DDR from Newegg. Wanna build a system by the end of the month and wanted to see what you guys would do given the following:

Considering an i845G mobo. Originally wanted a Epox 4g4a+ but then started reading the OC issues with it so I scraped it. Now thinking about the Abit BG7. Which i845G mobo would you get?

Or would you wait for VIA's P4PB - P4X333 boards to start showing up? Look like it can come close to 850E in benchmarks.

Sure miss the good ol days when there were mobo reviews aplenty! Hopefully someone will have a round-up soon.

I´ll wait for the Gigabyte 8IGXP. If its not available in Germany till the end of july, then ill go for the Abit BG7 too. In this forum are great posts about it, especially the Dram should run above 350MHz without problems. But no raid ...

Looks like the 8IGXP is available in Asia now but not here. Sent email to Gigabyte USA as to when it will be available in the US. Will post if I hear anything.

Why do you want 845G? What are your goals? You want to run your 1.6A @ ???GHz and your PC2700 @ DDR??? Do you want the onboard video?

OldFart,

Getting my 1.6a up to 2.4 would be sweet. I'm not a gamer so the onboard video should be ok for my needs. Don't need to be at the extreme edge of overclocking but if the Epox will run stable at 150mhz then I might put it back on the list. The whole issue of not having the P4 whatamacallit connector was a turn-off but I read somewhere that the Asus 845g board is having some of the same issues. Maybe the 845G is flawed?

As far as the VIA board goes, I called VIA US and the nice lady said that sample boards went out last week and they are ramping up wide-distribution around teh end of this month.

No email back from Gigabyte yet.

What I need:
A board that offers a nice balance of overclockability, performance, value, and stability is what I'm after. Oh yeah, RAID and USB2 too.
Thanks for the input guys!

I wouldn't use a VIA board if it was given to me (seriously). I have never used an 845G myself, so you know as much as I do. They seem OK, very fast clock for clock, but don't seem to get the high overclocks that the 845D/E boards do. If you aren't planning on a big overclock, the 845G may not be a bad choice. The 4:5 is a nice feature, as is the integrated video if that is all you need. At this time, I couldn't say which one either. Thugs is referring to um...preference ...for the EPOX 4BDA2+ 845D board, not the 4G4A+.

The P4B-533-V seems nice too! Too bad I hadn't that much to spend on the motherboard (I ended up buying a P4B-266-c that I should have tomorow and I can honestly say that I can't wait!!!!)

Man! Decisions, decision. Read a few posts praising the P4B533-V but you gotta wonder how the Gigabyte GA-8IGXP will fare. The Asus is expensive!

Called Gigabyte US today and they said that the 8IGXP should be on the shelves around the end of the month. Hope it's true.
