Trump would need the approval of Congress to declare war. He can, however, send the troops and equipment to attack anyone he so pleases. Depending on the circumstances, Congress can cut off money to the military if they don't agree with him.

If he start a war to save his ass then F him, to my American bro please no more war. Or else the world need to stand up against another US invasion.

I am tired of a war in some far off place with no clear purpose or end, and Iran has does nothing to warrant military action. This would be a mistake on par with Iraq, if not even a more colossal blunder.

too bad. Gop in control we get war. Obama fixed the next war choice and that pissed off the industry. Trump came in broke the agreement and now we get war again. All as it should be.

Well, it seems that our country is not interested in going to war over tanker problems in the Gulf of Oman because we really don't need it.

Speaking to TIME, Trump argued that the Gulf of Oman is less strategically important for the United States now than it used to be, citing China and Japan as nations that still rely on the region for significant proportions of their oil. “Other places get such vast amounts of oil there,” Trump said. “We get very little. We have made tremendous progress in the last two and a half years in energy. And when the pipelines get built, we’re now an exporter of energy. So we’re not in the position that we used to be in in the Middle East where … some people would say we were there for the oil.”

Trump said he agrees with the U.S. intelligence community’s assessment that Iran was behind the attacks, saying, “I don’t think too many people don’t believe it.” But he also downplayed Iran’s aggression, arguing that the country has adopted a less hostile posture towards the United States since he became president. “If you look at the rhetoric now compared to the days when they were signing that agreement [the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, which Trump withdrew from], where it was always ‘death to America, death to America, we will destroy America, we will kill America,’ I’m not hearing that too much anymore,” Trump said. “And I don’t expect to.”

While his war hawks are flapping their wings and yanking at their tethers to be let free, it looks like the tanker incidents aren't a big deal to him.

It would re-define the whole idea of a colossal blunder. Well, unless you're an oil producer who doesn't ship thru the straight of Hormuz. Geography gives Iran an enormous strategic advantage & they'll fight like Hell, bet on that.

Unless Iran attacks a US vessel Trump does not have the authority to declare war or attack Iran since it is not a direct threat to the US.

If he did it anyway Congress should immediately cut off military funding. Not sure the Dems have the stones to do that. However I do think they would immediately start impeachment. At that point there is no choice.

There is a chance the military would not follow the order since they realize it would be illegal. If the Dems are smart they would ask the military to to follow Trump before cutting off funding.

Common, that not how that works .. some bastard contractors takes a lil crypto from undercover mossad, dresses up and plays their part, gets their photo taken and off to the races we are ... And if the rest of NATO doesnt show up for that shitshow, well, we all know he is just waiting for an excuse to get out of that too... Putin so proud.

There remains an argument that attempting to develop nuclear weapons warrants an invasion to destroy said capability.

Whether we still want to do that is another matter.

The PNAC boys are at it again.

The thought of Cadet Bonespurs sending troops to war in any scenario sickens me. Doing so in a blatant attempt to subvert Congress and stay in office makes me think maybe these talk radio guys aren't too far off about a civil war.

Socialism isn't the threat, monarchy by wannabe king is, and I seem to recall us having a solution for that already.

So what? Iran demonstrably forswore such development when they signed the JCPOA. No weapons grade material, no weapons. Had they not agreed, they would have retained the right under the NPT to create as much LEU as they wanted under IAEA supervision, anyway. They accepted the IAEA before they even spun up their centrifuge farms. The IAEA is still there, monitoring production.

Ruh roh... Schiff is saying the evidence is very strong that it was Iran.

When Trump responds with force to the novichok incidents or the chopped up journalist ... then well talk about it... Even so, no, you cant have a retarded mad Capone warmongering anything. No matter what.

Pretty much except for the last part. You are factually correct about who controls the purse strings but Trump as CIC send troops anywhere he likes overseas. He can wage war, but he can't declare it. Congress can say no as you explain and strand thousands or tens of thousands of troops in harm's way with a broken logistical chain. Trump wins the WH, and the Republicans likely gain more power than they have had in the past.

I don't see that happening. To beat the dead horse the best way to make a war with Iran a political liability is to impeach Trump ASAP which leaves the Republicans and Trump have to face "They put us in a war to keep Trump in office" which would be hammered home to no end and rightfully so.

And guess what? Pelosi is still doing nothing and giving little signal she'll eventually get on with it. They're going to look like giant fools if Trump manages to get us into a war before they start a real impeachment inquiry.

If the worst happens then she and her supporters will be responsible in part for everything bad that happens by looking away.

Gawd. Dems can't question CENTCOM. The raving about why do you hate the troops would never end. That has to come from the media & so far they've been captured in a very clever web of deceit that's being contrived faster than it can be discredited. Pompeo & Bolton control the pacing of all of it. If it's not a run-up to an attack on Iran it sure looks like one.
