Yeah my mouse got pretty linty one day.
So I got a Logitech Optical Wheel Mouse :p
2 buttons, 1 scroll wheel, 0 mouse balls, and is was a measly $45 canadian at a retail store, so that's $30 US and I'm sure you could find a better price. The thing costs no more than a good quality balled mouse.

Why are you cleaning it with a toothpick? Use a Q-tip with rubbing alcohol on it.
Cleans it quite nicely. Daily cleaning is nuts....

Get an optical.

ok, this is for all you non-optical people:

I've had a Logitech Wingman Gaming mouse for nearly a year, and I have only taken the ball out two or three times. What I do is take my hand and wipe the dust off the mousepad everytime I sit down at my computer. Walah, problem solved. It's amazing how much dust can settle on your mousepad when you don't wipe it!

I've got the Logitech Mouseman+ Optical (big dark blue one) and I never have to clean it.

At work I'm using my regular Logitech Mouseman+ and I haven't had to clean it in over 2 months.

I had an Intelli Explorer, but it met an unfortunate end to its pathetic existance when it decided to screw me up for the last time while playing Counterstrike(my guy looked up and turned in circles). RIP.

I think I'm going to get one of those plasic mouse pads, instead of the cloth one I have. Then, as SonicFlux said, I'll just wipe the pad every day with a damp cloth before I sit down.

I can't get too mad, I use my mouse A LOT!

I think I'll try that. When I first bought this mouse, I used it for 3 weeks before I had to clean it. Maybe if I used the alcohol, it would clean it better and it would take longer for the lint to collect on the wheels.

There's a lot of optical owners!

I need a wireless optical. :) That's probably not going to happen right?

I have the Intellimouse Explorer, and I sometimes clean the bottom of it, but that is only about once a month
