Poll: How much would you pay an hour to play networked computer games at a Cyber Cafe?

Hey guys,

my boss asked me to find serious prices for internet gaming at a cafe. Most places around here are going around $3/hr for members and $6/hr for non-members. What do you guys think.

BTW, the cyber cafe he is opening is near UCLA in westwood, on Gayley ave, near breadsticks in the video store called VDO Stuff.

Thanks!

There are other things to do here like watching dvd movies, burning cds, scanning pictures, printing, homework, etc..

Here in NY they have a place called NetZone and they charge $3/hour and $5/2 hours. Every hour it goes down $1. It's not so bad, I've gone there with friends so we can have CS clan matches and stuff, otherwise I just stay at home and play my comp, hehe.

About $3.50/hr sounds good. You figure a two hour movie costs ~$7.50 to get in, so it should be about the same to play some games.

didnt they just open an internet cafe in westwood a couple months ago? i think its on westwood next to eurochow and radio shack. might want to see how much they charge since it's just down the street from vdo.

What is it with all these cyber cafes opening up all of a sudden in westwood? Someone opened one up in the lobby of my apartment building - 1 gig/19"/DVD/print/fax etc for $4/hr - a complete disaster as far as I can tell.
3-4 is a good price. Having a cyber cafe inside of a video store is interesting. If you offered 1 free dvd rental for the price then it would be a good deal. Only problem I can see is having 2 established competitors within 2 blocks of your location.

0 because it's all these rice boys who hang out there, and they all friggin smoke outside, which stinks up all the air around them 🙁

ok, take the cost of the comp and nesasary mantence/upgrades/software:
ex:$1500
plus the cost of net conections and networking
ex:$200
plus the cost of workers to survace over all divded by the number of comps
ex🙁150,000 div 50 comps)
plus anual profits expectd div comps
ex:100,000 div 50 comps

add all of them together to get the amount of money you want to make per comp
ex:$6700

then devide that number by the avg number of hrs per day used (that's total hrs of computer usage divided by the number of computers).
ex:4 hrs per day

then devide agen byu the number of days open per year
ex:350 days

to get the amount you want to charge per hr.
ex:4.79 +tax

Um prob 2 bucks an hour just to avoid the pains of setting up a network to have me friends play. There was a guy who setup a network in this old beatup shack when I was in college, he charged $1.50 an hour, man that was cheap fun!

so do you guys think this Cyber Cafe thing is a fad? i'm seriously thinking of starting one up as a business but i'm not too sure how long this fad if it is a fad will last. i'm sick of working for other people. how much do you think it will cost to get a cybergaming business started?

your boss is a dope if he thinks hes gonna get the ucla crowd, they can just play from their dorm rooms, they all have ethernet. Hit up the highschool guys who dont have the equipment. (have tournments with prizes etc.) i hear people like this new game called counter strike. maybe he should get afew copies of that.

the thing that is cool about this one is that you can pay by the hour, but can access all movies and rent any of them (for viewing at your station) for as long as you want for free. Since the video won't leave the premises, you can walk to the shelves, take a dvd, and watch it, without rental costs, just hourly costs. we will also do computer repair, sales, and stuff like that.

$2-3 sounds right to me.

but I would only pay this if the computer hardware was better than what I could use at home, or if the bandwidth was much better.
