*POLL* How much time do you spend at work doing NON-work stuff?

Sometimes I feel guilty, but sometimes there just isn't that much to be occupied or no urgent business to finish.

So how long do you think you spend per day doing things that the man shouldn't be paying you to do? :D

if i am at work, being payed an annual salary, then by definition, i am working

it might be thinking about some future project or all kinds of more "work like" activities, but if i am at work, then i am "working"

My last job I spent about 11 hours of my 12 hour shift doing jack. The other hour was spent taking a nap in my car.

This is hard to tell, because shifts differ. Some are busy as hell, others nothing happens at all.... Either way, I get paid for being there.

At my last job, about 3 of my 10 hour shift was used working. The other 7 hours was devoid of any sort of activity that could even be related to work - I was usually neffing, playing a game, or watching DVDs on my laptop. Hooray the overnight shift where, as long as we got the work done, we were pretty much allowed free reign.

At my current job, I spend about 8% of my 25-hour week in "AUX", that is to say, not answering calls, and so considered "not working".

That about sums it up. I feel like Office Space. If I have 4 good hours of work a week I'd be impressed.

It varies. I'm in a tech support position & our work load flows and ebbs. If we have open tickets, I'm busy; if we don't, I'm either neffing or doing homework. Usually, we're either super busy, or totally dead.

I'd say about 2 hours or less during the first 3 days of the week is actually spent working. Thursday and Friday though...I'm going non-stop ~9 hours each day.

System monitoring, while it has to be done all the time, does not necessarily require all of your time.

I have days like this. Then I have days at the opposite end of the spectrum, where my time's completely spoken for. Most are somewhere in the middle.

Depends...I don't see an option for browsing the internet while doing phone support...

But if you don't count that, I'd say about 1 or so hours are spent purely screwing off.
