[Poll] How many people have some form of eczema?

I just recently started having the symptoms of eczema (dry, cracked, painful skin) on my hands and went to a dermatologist to check it out. He diagnosed it as hand eczema. He also stated an interesting fact that I'm not sure is entirely true. He said that 1 in every 3 people has some form of eczema. This sounds kind of far-fetched to me.

Does anybody else have the same thing?

i got very bad eczema, it covers over a large area of my body. red, dry and itchy. certain foods like fish set it off, lack of sleep sets it off, some synthetic fibre sets it off etc

it sucks very much, even more so that there is no cure...

Agreed. It's terribly annoying. I didn't know what it was at first. It just looked like a rash. Even the doctor at my school didn't know what it was. Now that I think about it, I don't know how she wouldn't have at least guessed it was like eczema after all her experience in it but whatever. I surely didn't think that's what it was. She gave me some pennicillin and that cleared it up for a while. When it came back, I decided to see a dermatologist and the rest is history...

It's a scary feeling to think that I'll have to use like vaseline/steroid creams on my hands for the rest of my life so it doesn't break out.

pennicillin cleared it for a while? did you have an infection or something? i didnt think antibiotics work on ezcema i m ean it's an immune system malfunction

i had bad eczema when i was little, but didnt get it back til i was in the 9th grade (beginning of high school 🙁) it got really really bad for a while, but usually it'd last for maybe a week or 2 until it went away, then it'd come back in a few months. i just recently broke out over my face and across my arms. it sucked 🙂

Never been diagnosed with it, don't recall having the symptoms, so I'd say no.

My daughter has it... mildly.

I wonder if it's every 1/3 people or 1/3 people he sees?

wife gets it on her hands

Seems like a large percentage of people in WA have some sort of dermatitis (sp) I personally think it has a ton to do with lack of exposure to sunlight. I know whne i have occasional bout of psoriasis i can tan a few days and its gone,...

Got it pretty much everywhere, though I can usually keep it under control pretty well.

Dry weather makes it hard though.

Well, pennicillin cleared the infection. I went in because it hurt so bad, I could barely move it. I thought I had gangrene or something, lol. It wasn't pretty. The pennicillin took the infection away and a wussy steroid cream she gave me took it away for about a week or two. When it started coming back was when I knew it wasn't just a rash.

Kind of weird you posted this. Last week, I started developing this itch on my toe and there was a big red spot. I finally broke down and went to the dermatologist on Thursday because I didn't know what the heck this thing was, he told me it was dermatitis and gave me some stuff to put on and he even gave me a shot in the arm. It's still red but its clearing up a little and doesn't itch as much.
