My room is too dusty to do so. I would like to, but it's in a bad place for it. My room is quite possibly the worst room in the house to have a PC.

i ran it open for about a yaer with a PIII 600@800 in it. when i got my athlon, it actually go so hot i had to dremel the case, install two 80mm fans and put the cover ON. LOL... I have a small POS case so I also run it with my sparkle powersupply external ;)

Closed... if you do it right, you will create a much better airflow, and you get mucho less dust. My 1.2 CPU is at 115F under load.

Yes and No.

One of my cases I modified so that it runs better with the case on so that the air input is directly flowing across the Maxtor :)

I leave the side panels on, but I don't have them screwed in place, so I can just slip them off. So I guess that qualifies as closed.

i leave it open for convenience, plus i feel it keeps it cooler

I used to leave my case open until one day, I saw a tuft of fur gathered around my intake and cpu fans left from my shedding cats.
