2. Who is allowed to drink alcohol regularly throughout the day, every day?

I meant #2. I was wondering if many people's companies usually had "beer in the fridge".

I assume that most (or many) companies serve alcohol at functions.

At Jim Beam in Deerfield, IL, they have a bar on the 4th floor that employee's can go visit during the day.
From what I was told the rule is to just not get drunk. A drink here and there is not a big deal.

My company sponsors each department for off-site social activities to the tune of about $100 per person per year. The only restriction? No  or :wine: allowed :(

We have pure ethanol we infuse through IV routes. It's actually diluted to 5% ethanol.

Used for ethylene glycol and methanol toxicities/overdoses.

Yeah, my mother who's a nurse was telling me about them having to give someone some alcohol because if they didn't have alcohol that it would have made whatever the guy was in there for worse since he was an alcoholic.

I have a bottle of ICEWINE next to my desk. Made from Canada, my co-worker got it for me when he was there.

I worked for a very small company (25 people in the office) and many Fridays when "Beer 'Thirty" came around we crack open the suds. We'd do a little work for an hour or two, but nothing real important. It was more of a social hour after a hectic week. We never drank through the day or on any day besides Friday.

At another company I worked for (Fortune 500) we had R&R days every quarter where they would bring in Margarita machines and coolers full of beer for us to drink. You could never go until after your shift was over. This company also had "Fridays after work" where they brought in coolers full of beer and snacks one Friday a month for us to sit around and socialize at. Again, you couldn't go until after your shift. No drinking during/before you worked.

A former employer of mine used to have "beer Friday" every Friday. From noon on the fridge was stocked and everyone was allowed to drink. There was a ping pong table and a pool table as well. It was a nice place to work.

I work for a small company (500 employees? About 25 in my office) that is owned by a Fortune 500 company. We're allowed to drink at work, but I have no idea if our parent company allows their employees to drink. We can only drink after 5:00 though (in the office that is - I don't think there's any problem with drinking at lunch).

It also might explain Ballmer's antics (developers, developers, developers and his jumping around like maniac). "I have four words for you. I LOVE THIS COMPANY". Well no sh!t, you get wasted everyday there.

I've never worked for a company that would allow even a beer at lunch. It sucks hard. It's really unbelievable to me.
I live and work in the midwest though, so there are a lot of conservative customs, despite thae fact that it's a Blue state.

That's interesting, so observant muslims wouldn't work there?

The reason I ask is because the company I am applying for in Seattle does have beer in the fridge. Also, on Fridays, they bring in a couple Keg's and a bunch of wine so all employees can socialize and play pool and stuff.

Needless to say, I hope I get the job :)

wtf kind of company is this? a bar?

do they do any work?

same here. not that I'd want to drink at work. what's the point of drinking if you're not doing it to get buzzed/drunk? I certainly don't drink vodka for the taste :p

that said, I can't imagine anyone would bat an eye if someone had a beer or glass of wine with lunch (not that anyone actually takes lunch breaks here except for the sales guys) and every office party we've had has had an open bar.

I worked for a small law firm for a while, and there was always beer in the fridge. Now I work at a school, no alcohol allowed on campus (it's K-12, so all the students are underage). But they occasionally break that rule for Christmas parties or whatever... I'd say there's alcohol here about 2-3 times a year.

I think I remember hearing that it is either served after the work day is over (5:00), or somewhere around there, maybe like 3.

I assume they do work, yes.
