Policy says no liquor during business hours, but they do offer wine during company sponsored parties.

We have alcohol at the hospital. Seriously.

We have pure ethanol we infuse through IV routes. It's actually diluted to 5% ethanol.

Used for ethylene glycol and methanol toxicities/overdoses.

Heck, the phamacy used to keep a number of hard liquers for the occasional patient who wanted a night cap if their physician allowed but I don't think you'd want me taking care of you with a buzz on.

In the lab some places even have scientific grade ethanol. 100% or 200 proof which drops to about 96% just from opening the bottle (absorbs the water from the air). But the only guy I ever saw swig that was this old janitor, hard core alcholic. On the good side we finally figured out what that extra protien in the assay was coming from (back wash).

When I was in the Air Force in the '70's, Friday night on swing shift was nothing but a drunken party. That was every Friday night, for all organizations. I don't know if they still do it like that anymore.

Yeah, just like Everclear. I've had it twice. You can literally feel it absorbing in your skin, just like rubbing alcohol.

LOL I remember someone telling me his friend wanted to get drunk so bad he told the hospital he swallowed methanol because the cure is ethanol.. i'm sure it was just a rumor but pretty funny nonetheless

I dont think any medium to large organizations allow it. It might be more common to a small office where employees are close to each other socially.

Untrue, I work for a very large organization and they serve beer at most company parties as well as when large project milestones are completed.

what company?

I'm seriously surprised by this results of this poll. The question is a little unclear but I read it as "are you allowed to drink casually throughout the day". 33%? That's astounding.

I too was @ MS for a while and my group was allowed to drink casually through holidays and on product launches or milestones, but not daily. I guess I never really tried though...hmmmm

to a certain degree, every fast food / retail job is stressful.

not in the same way as, say, having to make major changes to an institution or having the success of a company ride directly on your back, but it's more about having rude customers right in your face.
