Athlon 1.4 @ 1.62

I don't really think I can see a performance difference except in benchmarks...but oh well...

I've been overclocking since the 486 days. I'm glad it's become "increasingly popular ... in the last six weeks."

There are certain situations when overclocking can make a big difference. Prime example......

First time overclocking anything.....I had a P3 500 with a TNT2 Ultra. Started getting into some of the newer games at that time, like Deus Ex and SOF. Running those games on that system at a decent res, it was challenging to keep the frame rates at a smooth, playable level. A little reading..a few settings..and whalla...I had pretty smooth frame rates courtesy of some mild overclocking. If I remember correctly, I had the P3@~600..can't remember what the core/mem was on that card. But anyway, it made all the difference in that rig.

Then I moved on to a P3 1Ghz and a V5 5500. The P3 wouldn't do much more than 1100 stable, so that's where I ran it. That o/c was realy just cause I could, not because it was needed. V5 was o/ced a little too.

Now I'm running a 1.6A@2.2 with a G3@225/525. Again, not realy because I need any more speed out of either component, just because it's become a habbit. I get a thrill out of seeing the big numbers I guess.

And for the record...There is quite a noticable difference from the 1.6A@1.6 and @2.2. Besides, the 1.6A it perfectly happy at 2.2/1.5V, so why not? :D

Overclocking has gotten increasingly popular since 1.6A and 1.8A Pentium 4 Northwood processors were introduced ~ 6 weeks ago.

Actually overclocking became popular with the Celeron and the Thunderbird AXIA.

1ghz tbird at 1.4 default voltage and no fancy cooling
not a sign of instability for the last 6 months, so why not?

I usually have a moderate overclock on my CPUs. I typically don't over clock my graphics card, unless I really need it for a game.

c850 @ 1.14
64mb gf2mx400 modified to quadro2mxr

I think I can sum it up quite simply;

If it's got settings, i'll tweak it...

I asked the same question when the classic Athlon was released. So many people were posting the question "How will it (Athon) overclock" even before the cpu was out that I began to wonder how many people were oc their systems. About 75% responded positively.

I overclock sometimes. Every now and then.

I've overclocked most of my stuff earlier. From a P-133 using an async 75Mhz FSB, Cirrus Logic 5440 based VGA and the memory on it, etc ...to my Athlon XP. I've brought the FSB down on my Athlon from 145Mhz to 137 Mhz due to the rise in temps during summer.
