If you're a driver who has bothered to check their car's fuel economy, how many miles do you get to a gallon?

km/lter to mpg=2.351 x km per liter
liters/100km to mpg= 100/(liters per 100km) x 2.351

when i fill it up till i first get the Low Fuel indicator, i get about 350-400 miles. thats about 14 gallons. then i know i have 3 more gallons left since my tank can hold 17 gallons so i push out another 50-75 miles. so i get about 25 to 28.5 miles per gallon. i drive like to drive hard and accelerate fast and keep the constant speed fast so maybe this isnt the best fuel efficiecy for a 2000 4cylinder 150HP honda accord.

Part of me wants a four cylinder car for efficiency and other part of me wants a V6 for acceleration and hill climbing when I have four friends in the car with me. Overall I wouldn't go for V8, but would like to have a V6 over 4cylinder and I'd say most 17y/o guy would much rather have V6 than a four cyl.

I'm just shy of 20mpg on the last few times I checked, but 90% of my driving is city and I have 4.10 gears...

Figure thats not so bad for almost having just over 450HP and weighing 5300lbs :)

About 22.5mpg driving around town, 29mpg on the highway. EPA estimates claim 26/32. Hondas don't give great fuel economy if they are driven hard (as they should be driven!). I don't try to be easy on the gas because driving spiritedly is more fun than saving a buck or two per fill-up.

I drive a 98 model Toyota Corolla 2.0 diesel that officially does 58mpg in an extra-urban environment - it reality it does about 50-55 depending on how hard I drive it. In and about town it does a steady 45mpg, which I am impressed with.

Yes I am from England. Here there has been a diesel version of the Corolla for as long as I can remember, but always in the bigger 1.9 or 2.0 engine size as opposed to a 1.3/1.4/1.6. As far as I am aware, they are also available in Asia.

They aren't popular at all in the UK as they are about £2000 more expensive than the next model down (but does come with decent kit - ABS, airbags, aircon, electric windows/sunroof - that on the lower down models don't come as standard), and diesel is about 4p per litre more expensive than regular unleaded, so even though they average 10mpg more than all other Corollas across the board and have better emissions (and acceleration!), it does take quite a long time before owning one pays off finanially better than a regular Corolla.

Still the most boring car on the planet - but all Corollas will do a least 100,000 miles without the faintest hint of worry.

exactly. well said. it's fun to redline a car from zero just so you can be the first at the line at the next red light.

My 88 Dedge Aries usually gets between 21 and 22 for mostly city driving.

Had a friend in HS who had a GTO that got 6. :Q

Around 23mpg driving ~70.....probably pull off 25mpg if I actually drove 55 :D
That's in a 1986 Pontiac Parisienne (5.0l engine) BTW :)
